Stories of Strength, Hope and Healing

Doreen, an active grandmother of five knew a shooting pain through her knee was not something to overlook. Little did she know, this would be a start to a long orthopedic health journey.

Becky is a 72-year-old retired high school art teacher residing in Mattapoisett. She has always been proactive about her health, routine visits and screenings. It was a complete surprise when her care team identifies concerning lumps at a routine mammogram.

Marie’s days were full of gardening, crafts, social gatherings, and travel until one morning when she woke up unable to more her left leg. The mother of two and grandmother of five had suffered a stroke at age 69, and found herself in the Southcoast Health Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Charlton Memorial Hospital.

Katy was new to the South Coast, new to working at Southcoast Health, and expecting a child – life was full of big, exciting changes. Little did she know, she would have to navigate these life changes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jeanne embarked on her weight loss journey in the summer of 2020, in her late 50s, motivated by her family history of heart disease. Her mother had a fatal heart attack at age 73, and Jeanne knew time was running out to make the lifestyle changes that would allow her to live a long and healthy life.

Staying Healthy and Active

Weight Loss Programs

Maintaining a healthy weight decreases the risk of chronic health conditions associated with obesity, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

The Southcoast Health Weight Loss Center offers both surgical and non-surgical weight loss programs and a comprehensive team of specialists to guide and support you every step of the way with a plan customized for you and your goals.

Staying active is an important step towards living a healthy lifestyle. If arthritis, knee or joint pain is preventing you from living an active life, we have the surgical and non-surgical options to help.

Women are more at risk of developing osteoporosis than men because the hormone changes that happen at the menopause directly affect bone density.
