Complementary Therapies are exactly as they sound - practices and treatments that focus on the connection between body, mind and spirit rather than solely on medical science. But they support and complement regular medical practices.
It may be acupuncture, which follows and builds the body's Qi, or a Reiki master allowing energy to flow through your body to help heal it. Other modes include aromatherapy, massage therapy and healing touch - all of which at the very least release stress, a common factor in many ailments.
These therapies by themselves may not be the answer, but when used with traditional medical practices, they can help people recover more quickly and have a more positive outlook.
This site is just a sampling of some complementary therapies that many practioners use with traditional medical practices at Southcoast Health System. And always be sure to talk with your doctor about any type of therapy or treatment you begin.
