The Role of PACS in Radiology
Southcoast uses a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to provide faster access to images and reports for physicians, enabling them to provide better professional services.
PACS creates a more organized, efficient and environmentally friendly work setting for hospital staff — all of which contribute to higher quality patient care.
PACS creates a "filmless" environment, securely capturing and storing the images on dedicated servers. As images are captured during a patient's exam, they are immediately transferred into digital form, making them readily available to be viewed. This allows for faster diagnosis and earlier treatment.
Patients can feel confident that their test results and information are securely transmitted to their physician, decreasing their wait time from traditional methods.
PACS will ultimately provide faster, easier access to patient information, diagnostic data, examination results and records.
