Sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs, are infections that are passed from one person to another during sexual activity. Another name for STDs is sexually transmitted infections, or STIs. They are caused by a variety of bacteria and viruses.

Treating Symptoms of STDs in MA & RI

Different sexually transmitted diseases produce different symptoms, but generally you may experience the following symptoms when infected with an STD:

  • Abnormal discharge
  • Pelvic pain
  • Itching
  • Small sores
  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Painful urination
  • Lower abdominal pain
  • Pain during intercouse
  • Bleeding between menstrual periods
  • Nausea and vomiting

If you think you may have a sexually transmitted infection, reach out to your doctor to report your symptoms and find the right treatment. They can provide a STD test, pelvic exam and other diagnostic tests for teens and adults. Most STDs are easily treated with antibiotics, but there is no cure for some infections. Pregnant women who have been diagnosed with an STD should talk to their doctors about how it could affect their pregnancy and childbirth.
