Southcoast Health’s Breast Center is Open and Encouraging Patients to Schedule Breast Cancer Screening

Southcoast Health's Breast Center encourages patients to talk with their doctors during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month about breast cancer screening and routine mammograms.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has forced many patients away from their regular screenings and health maintenance. However, the Breast Center is ensuring visits are safe. “Every Southcoast Health building that you enter, you get screened. You are screened for temperature as well as for symptoms. Even the employees get screened,” says Dr. Chung, MD, PhD, and Medical Director of the Breast Care Program. “Breast cancer screening is one of the most important things we can do, and as women, we control. Because of early detection with a mammogram, most of the cancers we find today are very early and very easy to treat.”

The Southcoast Breast Center offers a new way of getting answers about your breast health through a connected continuum of diagnostics, treatment, and preventative care. Breast Center specialists provide a patient-focused and collaborative process for breast care. “Our team consists of oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists,” says Dr. Chung. “We spend a considerable amount of time during our weekly breast conferences determining the best care plans for each individual patient.”

The Southcoast Health Breast Center located in Dartmouth and Fall River offers clinical examinations as well as imaging – and breast health services in Wareham. The Breast Center has also expanded its practitioners’ network, with the additions of Caroline Plamondon, MD, and Monica DaSilva, MD, joining Keren Braithwaite, DO on the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical team.

The Southcoast Health Breast Center has received full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process and performance review.
