About Monica DaSilva

Dr. DaSilva earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, NY. She then completed a surgical residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY, and after a few years of practice, a breast surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. DaSilva has clinical interests in nipple-areolar preserving mastectomy, localization techniques to maximize breast conservation and breast cancer prevention through lifestyle interventions.

Dr. DaSilva decided to pursue a career in medicine when her grandfather battled lung cancer while she was in high school. During this ordeal, her family encountered many exceptional healthcare professionals who, to this day, inspire her to be a meticulous, caring and knowledgeable physician. Dr. DaSilva decided to specialize in breast surgery due to the opportunity to offer compassionate and expert care to patients undergoing life-changing medical conditions, maximizing oncological outcomes and cosmesis.

Dr. DaSilva’s philosophy of care is to listen fully to her patients, advocate vigorously for patient care and to provide individualized patient-centered treatment, while utilizing innovative surgical techniques.

In her free time, Dr. DaSilva enjoys studio arts, such as charcoal, India ink, wash and acrylics, and is an avid organic vegetable gardener.

Support staff were phenomenal. The physician was not empathetic in her interaction of a patient about to go into biopsy. She has little to No bedside manner. I am contemplating choosing a different physician. The radiologist and technical staff in the biopsy suite were wonderful.

Paper gowns should be larger. Also a privacy curtain in the room to be pulled once a patient changes would be appropriate as the doors open to a main hallways.

My visit was pretty routine just anxious about mammogram results. The tech that gave me the test, check in and check out staff and tech doing my vitals were all pleasant and attentive. A sense of humor always helps. Dr DaSilva was and is the BEST. She always gives you the relaxed time and caring that you need. She listens and will answer all of your questions. She is warm, caring, and always smiles at you throughout.

Today was the first time I had seen Dr. DaSilva. She is EXCEPTIONAL! She was patient, kind and extremely knowledgeable. I felt VERY confident with the information she provided me. Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
