Southcoast Health is doing More to mark this year’s annual Pride Month celebration.

Here at Southcoast, we are proud to support, celebrate, and uplift the voices of our LGBTQIA+ employees, patients, and community. We do this every day through our provision of gender-affirming care, efforts to foster a culture of belonging, and our education of both clinical and non-clinical Southcoast employees.

This year, we are also celebrating several significant milestones to support LGBTQIA+ employees and patients including:

  • A successful first year of our More Pride Southcoast Employee Resource Group (ERG)
Established to create a community of Southcoast Health’s LGBTQ+ employees, family members, friends and allies, this ERG offers opportunities to connect, provide support to each other, and increase awareness of our LGBTQ+ community within Southcoast Health. This 20+ member strong ERG has lots of great work ahead!
  • A successful launch of our Welcoming and Knowledgeable Project
Designed to advance health equity, reduce healthcare disparities, to improve the care experience for our LGBTQIA+ patients. A major component of this project was including opportunities for patients to share their sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) information within Southcoast’s electronic health record, including through MyChart. Since the launch of this initiative, over 50,000 patients have responded to at least one SOGI question, and over 30,000 have reported their sexual orientation.
  • LGBTQIA+ 101 training for all Southcoast Health employees
This training focuses on cultural competency during our Annual Mandatory Training and at new hire orientation.
  • The creation of our Transitioning Resource Guide
This resource outlines practical considerations for transgender and nonbinary employees who are transitioning at work.
