About Michael Langworthy

Dr. Langworthy earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is fellowship trained in adult pelvis and major joint reconstruction at the University of California, San Diego.

A leading advisor on arthritic joint disease to the US military, Dr. Langworthy holds a clinical faculty appointment at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. He is a current Director of Advanced Trauma Life Support for the US Navy and has published numerous papers and spoken around the world on cartilage and osteoarthritis.

Dr. Langworthy was honored as one of the Top 100 Health Care Professionals of the world in 2013 and is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

I had questions about insurance coverage.She had answers to questions I didn't even know I had.I thanked her for her personal attention and not simply telling me "I don't know" and sending me away.- the insurance mediator was warm and friendly and most of all efficient and effective in helping me decode my insurance coverage. -The wait time was sensible considering the volume of people to be seen.-my experience with Dr Langworthy was outstanding!! I felt comfortable and confident in his diagnosis and planning.He presents as highly knowledgeable, confident and determined to do what is best for his patients.-His staff is warm,kind,intrinsically aware of the patients' needs and very accommodating.They go the extra mile to be sure that I understand the answers to my questions and that I am comfortable with the results. If an issue is unresolved I'm given the correct information and direction I need to solve it. What is important is that there is follow-up to see if the issue has been resolved.This helps me to feel in control and such I have someone in my corner working with me.-I requested my x-rays on a disc and received them upon leaving!! It is frequent,with other offices,that I have to invoke an act of Congress to get my x-rays. I've been told "No, because you don't know how to read them." (I'm a veterinary technician and I've been reading x-rays for years, not that it would change their answer.) or that "It isn't our policy to release x-rays." (Here's my favorite): "You can have them for $15."??- All things considered, my visit was an excellent example of quality care. -I drive 80 miles (one way) from out of state because I know these are the people I, literally,trust with my life. The only improvement I can think of is to have magazines like Popular Science, Discovery, Time/Life Series and Gadgets available in the waiting room. might as well learn something while I'm sitting there.

  • My insurance is through [Name] in [Name] and because of this when my appointment was made I told the receptionist that if any lab or x rays were needed that I would need to go to [Name] to a [Name] Facility so that I would not have to pay more out of pocket and that I could get this done before I see the doctor so that I would have additional information which may be required. Well the receptionist ignore that and I showed up for my appointment however the doctor was unable to do a complete inspection because he did not have the required x rays and blood work so I basically went there for nothing and was charged $35.00 for the visit and lost half a day of work. Now I am told to get x rays and blood work and have another appointment. Wast of time and money!

  • I arrived 39 min early for a 3:30 appointment. I wasn't seen until 4:15 which was 45 min later than the appointed time. I will try to make earlier appointment times in the future so as not to get stuck with long wait times. This has never happened to me with this provider before.

  • Dr Langworthy came in and welcomed me as a friend not just like a patient. He explained everything that I needed to know. I can hardly wait for him to fix my knees! Great doctor

  • He is awesome giving knee injections, no pain!

  • Stop and listen to your patients so they understand their illness or condition. Provide enough time for each patient and don’t rush them out the door.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Helpfulness of Clerks & Receptionists, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
