About Matthew Baltz

Dr. Baltz received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut Medical School. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Baltz is a member of the American Academy of Surgeons and American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. His special interests include arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder and ankle, sports related injuries, general fractures and hand surgery.

He previously served as assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics and Northeastern University. Currently, he is the team physician for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Wareham Gatemen.

Dr. Baltz is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

  • Support staff/ nurses were attentive and professional

  • Long wait to see doctor. Appt was at 10:15, saw doctor at 11:00. The longest time I have spent inside a building in months

  • Dr. Baltz explains everything to me. He was very, he was nice. He was a doctor who could, he could have been. I don't know. He's just right to the point and I guess that's good. But the only thing I could complain about is I got a cortisone shot and I didn't get the freight of freeze it and it was very it was a hurt and I wish she had used the spray of freeze before she gave it to me. That's all, it was a good experience.

  • If you want me to answer questions, please speak in something other than technology speak. The first time you called and you're talking about telehealth. I can only assume that you're talking about did I see the physician in person or did I have a conversation with the physician over the phone? Please be clearer and what you are asking for so that I don't have to make assumptions about what it is you're asking me.

  • Pain relieved after a cortisone injection and goals set for improving my overall health and living situation. Acceptance and greater understanding of arthritis in my knee. I am a Senior but there are still many things I can do to improve my mobility and alleviate discomfort. TY

  • I was scheduled for a short visit to have cortisone put in my knee and that went very well as usual that's always actually, but I also was having a problem with my neck, Dr. Baltz was wonderful. He took the time to take and have x-rays taken talk to me about a fall I had recently and about an arthritic nick, and he's referred me to physical therapy. So I was extremely happy with the appointment. Thank you.

  • You did everything well as usual, nothing needs improvement,I've never had any problems in 30 years with doctors and staff

  • First visit. Everyone was welcoming, and efficient. My only issue involved the crutches I was provided. I was asked my height and given a pair of crutches. Then I was left alone. I had little experience with crutches and almost fell over a few times. A nice staff member observed me leaving and adjusted them. They were still difficult and when I got home adjusted the handle height. They are ok now.

  • 2 new shoulders ... effortlessly!!!!!

  • 35 minute in exam room before Doctor came in..No one mentioned during that time that he was runnung so would have been nice if someone kept me informed as too how late he was running instead of just leaving me alone in the exam room.

  • The process and facility was fine following protocol due to COVID

  • Dr. Baltz was comforting and with a professional gentle manner explained everything to me and presented me with options in order to make a wise decision as to how to deal with my situation.I felt confident that he was offering the best options for my situation and trusted him explicitly.Later the next day I had to call as I was suffering from extreme pain and received a call back from the dr. on call, Dr. [Name] who was exceptional. He gave me a regiment of Advil and Tylenol to help with pain and thoroughly explained the dosing procedure in a manner that I could understand. He was extremely caring and sensitive to my needs.

  • Extremely well run office. Staff were all great and Dr Baltz was excellent diagnosing me and explaining my options.

  • Drs and nurses were rude when they ask question they need to listen to the patient's answers. Seemed like they didn't care, just wanted to give injection and move on to the next patient.

  • Given the COVID-19 situation, I was a little skeptical about going to any doctor. Someone screened me before I was allowed to even enter. The receptionist and nurse were lovely and calming. Dr. Baltz seemed to know exactly what he was doing and conducted a few short tests to find the root of my painful neck and shoulder problems. After having a few x-rays taken - the technician being efficient and kind - he gave me a plan of action. Overall, the social distancing and sanitizing efforts were excellent, and the medical care exceeded my expectations.

  • I was very pleased with the care and attention received once I entered the facility. I am not sure if it was because of the holiday on Monday and my appointment was on Tuesday, but I was instructed to call once I arrived at the facility and at the parking lot. I did call and was on hold for 15 minutes and finally decided to enter the entry hall where I was greeted and told by the person who took my temperature that the wait had been about 20 minutes before someone would answer my call so that I could enter the Southcoast. I was concerned that I would be late for my appointment, which is why I decided to enter at the front door. From then on my experience was acceptable and I was attended to.

  • I was told I would have to wait in my car but when I got there it was unclear which side I should park on or if their was a order to parking

  • My visit was for a specific reason. Pain in my right shoulder. X-rays were taken and the doctor examined my shoulder for the source of pain. We discussed what was happening and why. He explained my options for recovery and proceeded with my permission and choice of recovery. He answered all my questions and will see him for follow up in 7 weeks. A pleasant experience as he is a new physician for me and i was pleased with the outcome of our meeting.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
