About Matthew Baltz

Dr. Baltz received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut Medical School. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Baltz is a member of the American Academy of Surgeons and American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. His special interests include arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder and ankle, sports related injuries, general fractures and hand surgery.

He previously served as assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics and Northeastern University. Currently, he is the team physician for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Wareham Gatemen.

Dr. Baltz is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

  • Excellent service and care

  • Given the COVID-19 situation, I was a little skeptical about going to any doctor. Someone screened me before I was allowed to even enter. The receptionist and nurse were lovely and calming. Dr. Baltz seemed to know exactly what he was doing and conducted a few short tests to find the root of my painful neck and shoulder problems. After having a few x-rays taken - the technician being efficient and kind - he gave me a plan of action. Overall, the social distancing and sanitizing efforts were excellent, and the medical care exceeded my expectations.

  • I was very pleased with the care and attention received once I entered the facility. I am not sure if it was because of the holiday on Monday and my appointment was on Tuesday, but I was instructed to call once I arrived at the facility and at the parking lot. I did call and was on hold for 15 minutes and finally decided to enter the entry hall where I was greeted and told by the person who took my temperature that the wait had been about 20 minutes before someone would answer my call so that I could enter the Southcoast. I was concerned that I would be late for my appointment, which is why I decided to enter at the front door. From then on my experience was acceptable and I was attended to.

  • I was told I would have to wait in my car but when I got there it was unclear which side I should park on or if their was a order to parking

  • Things moved quickly and smoothly That always is a plus. I know the Doctors see thousands of patients a year. It didn’t bother me too much, but he didn’t seem to remember me. Again not a big deal. Thx

  • Everything went well. I felt safe because of the Covid precautions that were taken at the entrance. My medical issue was diagnosed and treated in an efficient manner.

  • My visit was for a specific reason. Pain in my right shoulder. X-rays were taken and the doctor examined my shoulder for the source of pain. We discussed what was happening and why. He explained my options for recovery and proceeded with my permission and choice of recovery. He answered all my questions and will see him for follow up in 7 weeks. A pleasant experience as he is a new physician for me and i was pleased with the outcome of our meeting.

She was pleased that my knee “Required no further intervention.” Weight loss of course would help me waltz thru my remaining years. [Name] is married to a Navy Seal and I have to adapt to their lifestyle during The Holidays.

  • I was seen by my pcp the day after l called for an appointment regarding my left shoulder pain. After his thorough exam and type of symptoms l was experiencing l was promptly referred to the orthopedic surgeon Dr. Baltz who diagnosed my condition and treated me. He was and his staff were also professional, courteous and efficient.

I’ve only been there one other time before and yet I was treated with such special care. Everything was explained and well understood. The staff as well as the doctor were very receptive to my needs. It didn’t take long to see him and we were there very short time afterwards. I do not enjoy going to any doctors office at any time but this office made me feel very comfortable. They are very professional and understand their patients needs. I would recommend that office to anyone in the future.

  • The office ran smoothly. The MA took me within 5 minutes and after she finished, the Doctor came in almost immediately. Everything was well done.

  • The doctor was not the least bit friendly or engaging. It felt like he was disinterested in me as patient and basically wanted to move on with his day. His responses to my questions seemed like he was annoyed by the fact that I was asking them.

  • The receptionist was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about my Tricare insurance. [Name] the nurse was very friendly and remembered me from last time. Dr Baltz took the time and explained the procedure very thoroughly. I left there knowing I was going to be in very good hands.

  • I am new to Southcoast other than a visit many years ago. I am looking forward to choosing additional doctors as I am transitionally moving back to the area. I need to transfer medical history info from many years in a CA plan to Southcoast.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
