About Matthew Baltz

Dr. Baltz received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut Medical School. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Baltz is a member of the American Academy of Surgeons and American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. His special interests include arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder and ankle, sports related injuries, general fractures and hand surgery.

He previously served as assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics and Northeastern University. Currently, he is the team physician for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Wareham Gatemen.

Dr. Baltz is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

  • Excellent overall experience. Extra 15 minute wait for a morning appointment was surprising, but not dissapointing.

  • The Dr had no bedside manner, was very rude and made my daughter feel like she wasn't in as much pain as she said.

  • Dr. Baltz took extra X-rays after my primary care did say I had nothing wrong and he found that I had a cracked clavicle and explained all the pain that I was in. I appreciated it greatly that he took the time to take extra X-rays and look closer for my injury. Thank you.

  • This is only my initial experience with doctor... with the orthopedic person. The first time I've seen him, so, I mean, I can't really judge. As we go on, it would be easier. But for a first impression very good, very attentive, very down to business, explained everything thoroughly, so that's what I can go on.

  • Hi Dr. Baltz and all of the ladies who work there are always very pleasant and professional and I get my cortisone shot in my knee and it's effective for a few months and I just wanted to say they do a great job. Thank you.

  • The women at the door taking temperature was sitting in a chair engrossed in her cell phone. I didn't even think she worked there. I was almost inside before she started the Covid screening. Never had any greeting at all. Dr baltz is borderline rude. He is quick in and out. I find his personality abrasive. I know he is good at what he does but he is not pleasant. This is not my first interaction with him and it's always the same.

  • Dr Baltz addressed my issue and explained that I might have two issues causing pain. He greatly reduced the pain in my hip with a cortisone shot. He had a student shadowing him that day and his staff asked whether student could observe the app. Dr B explained things in great detail as he examined me so that student could understand why he was rotating my hip and leg. Great doctor!

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
