About Jorge Huaco Cateriano

Dr. Huaco is a board certified surgeon and earned his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín in Arequipa, Peru.

Dr. Huaco completed his fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Florida. He completed his residency in pediatric surgery at Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal – Instituto de Salud del Niño, Lima, Peru, followed by his fellowship in pediatric surgery at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital and residencies in general surgery at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital and at the Swedish Medical Center, First Hill, in Seattle. While working on research at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Dr. Huaco earned a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the University of Washington.

Dr. Huaco was named “Intern of the Year” for 2007-2008 while at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is fluent in Spanish.

  • I am normally a patient of[Name] Dr Huaco saw me bc he had an opening. It was a great experience dealing with him. He was kind and explained things in an easy manner. The health care team is always amazing as is [Name]the receptionist. Only feedback I would provide is the receptionists who answer the phone could be friendlier. Every time that I've called post op with a question or to set up an appointment the person answering the calls seem to be rude and cold. Complete opposite from everyone else that I deal with in that office. So it's very surprising.

  • I have been there for 4 years and this is the first time that I felt comfortable speaking my language. In past they have provided an interpreter. This time, my doctor spoke my language and so did the assistant that took my vitals. I was very satisfied to have been able to understand everyone. I had surgery 4 years ago and suffer from a lot of stomach issues.

  • The Doctor was very kind and attentive to all my needs and asked me several times if I understood everything he was saying about my treatment plan!!!

  • Dr. Huaco took the time to answer all questions that I, and my wife, had. We didn't feel rushed or dismissed. He even took the time to literally draw pictures showing what the plan was for my surgery, and again after showing what was done. During my stay in the hospital and at my follow-up office visit his bedside manner was an A+!

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
