About Monica DaSilva

Dr. DaSilva earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, NY. She then completed a surgical residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY, and after a few years of practice, a breast surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. DaSilva has clinical interests in nipple-areolar preserving mastectomy, localization techniques to maximize breast conservation and breast cancer prevention through lifestyle interventions.

Dr. DaSilva decided to pursue a career in medicine when her grandfather battled lung cancer while she was in high school. During this ordeal, her family encountered many exceptional healthcare professionals who, to this day, inspire her to be a meticulous, caring and knowledgeable physician. Dr. DaSilva decided to specialize in breast surgery due to the opportunity to offer compassionate and expert care to patients undergoing life-changing medical conditions, maximizing oncological outcomes and cosmesis.

Dr. DaSilva’s philosophy of care is to listen fully to her patients, advocate vigorously for patient care and to provide individualized patient-centered treatment, while utilizing innovative surgical techniques.

In her free time, Dr. DaSilva enjoys studio arts, such as charcoal, India ink, wash and acrylics, and is an avid organic vegetable gardener.

  • Very nice and respectful

  • With the front desk and medical assistant I felt they ingnored the fact that I was upset about waiting 45 minutes to even be called in and screened prior to seeing my doctor. I had to ask several times how much longer and finally was informed the doctor was running a 1/2 hour late after I had already waited 15 minutes past my appointment. The office staff individuals' attitude was oh well, "the doctor is running late". I recieved no appology for the office or even the doctor. I ended being late for work and lost $50.00 pay because of the the delay at being taken at my appointment time. I feel this is very unprofessional. If I, as the patient arrives ten minutes late for my appointment time; I would have been told to reschedule me appointment, but it is ok, if the doctor makes me wait 45 minutes. I wouldn't be so upset if it were not for the fact that I was not inform immediately upon my arrival that the doctor was running so late. If I was given that information, I would have been allow the opportunity to inform my employer that I was running late. My time is valuable, too. Why does Southcoast Health Breast Surgery feel they are allowed to ignore common curtosity when serving their clients/patients?

  • Dr. Dasilva was very very thorough and really took care in time and always left time to listen to me, answer my questions and made sure that I didn't have more questions, or more to say and even came back to the examining room when I thought of some other things and really, really took her time and all of her attention was on me as the patient at that time. Greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Overall a thorough exam. Physician was kind and thoughtful in making recommendations for future care.

  • Thoroughness from check in to talking with the physician.I was surprised that upon entering the building that no one took my temperature, she just asked if I had any COVID symptoms.

  • The overall visit was fine. My only comment is the receptionist was not very friendly when reviewing my information when I checked in. I also waited for 45 minutes before being seen. The nurse did apologize though, and she was very nice. It was just a little aggravating to wait 45 minutes for a 10 minute follow up.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
