About Charles Shana

Specializing in gastroenterology, Dr. Shana is in practice at Truesdale Medical Specialties Associates in Fall River. He is on the active medical staff at Charlton Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Shana received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in medicine at the Brown University Medical School Affiliated Hospitals. He completed a clinical and research fellowship in Gastroenterology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching affiliate. He has served as an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Shana is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He is an elected Fellow member to the American College of Gastroenterology and a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is Chairman of Gastroenterology at Charlton Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Shana is available in Fall River on Mondays 2-430 and Thursdays 12-430. He also has rotating availability in Middletown RI at the Family Medicine Center. Please call for his availability.

  • My appointment was at 10, I waited until 10:45 before Dr. Shanna came into room. He did spend a lot of time reviewing my case issues and asked many questions about symptons I have. Referred to test results taken a few weeks earlier for this ailment.was not able to access CT-Scan from [Name] Hospital but assured me it was negative.Proposed a health plan for a week and to let him know how I am doing. Explained each step of the plan, insuring I understand it. Gave feedback as to what he suspected was ailing me. Asked if I had any questions before the consultaion ended. Very satisfied with this visit. [Name] if you had anything to do with getting me an appt. in a timely manner, thank you so much! And thank you Dr. Shanna!

  • The only issue I have is, I spoke to Dr. Shana during Tele-visit. and said, I'd probably have to hear back from his office regarding a colonoscopy, But that was last Friday on the 16th. It's now the 22nd I haven't heard from anyone. So I'll try them back tomorrow because last I talked to them. The gal said that he only works Mondays and Fridays..(INAUDIBLE) I think he's off. Thank you.

  • My appointment was 9:30. I was not seen until 10:02. Had to tell my driver " Doctor late seeing me. Pick me up later."

  • My only complaint is that I had to wait over an hour to be seen. Dr was running late and would have appreciated a call at home to inform me of that.

  • My experience may have been improved had the scheduling office call me back rather than scheduling me for an appointment, and then not telling me until I got the text - and my experience with the doctor might have been improved by him explaining in more depth what could be causing my issues, and helping me understand the way forward on how to improve my condition.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
