About Charles Shana

He has served as an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Shana is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He is an elected Fellow member to the American College of Gastroenterology and a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is Chairman of Gastroenterology at Charlton Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Shana is available in Fall River on Mondays 2-430 and Thursdays 12-430. He also has rotating availability in Middletown RI at the Family Medicine Center and Westport at the Westport Family Medicine Center. Please call for his availability.

  • My appointment was bu telephone because of COVID 19. Dr. Shana called me at the appointed time, he listened carefully to my issues and gave me advice on what to do about my problem. His office called me promptly to make a follow-up appointment for later this year. I was very satisfied with this arrangement.

He was also very quiet and I found that kind of intimidating he wasn't as forthcoming or as interactive as I would have wanted especially for first time visit. He also didn't really seem to understand my medical situation. He scheduled a follow up test for me*

  • Dr. Shana and his staff were a godsend to me. I had no primary care doctor because mine had left, and my local gastroenterologist would not see me after I was in ER. As soon as I called Dr. Shana, his staff expressed concern and said they would fit me in ASAP. Dr. Shana was kind enough to see me on a day that he did not normally have office hours, and spent ample time answering questions and explaining things to me. He also gave me a diagnosis, which I was not able to obtain for many months. Receiving the diagnosis was a great relief to help me with treatment. Dr. Shana's staff was extremely welcoming and efficient, and I was seen immediately after arriving. After going many months with inadequate medical care, I cannot express my gratitude enough for your caring and competency.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Helpfulness of Clerks & Receptionists, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
