Dr. Ann L. Potter named Medical Director of Southcoast Behavioral Health

2016-0519DARTMOUTH, Mass. — Southcoast Behavioral Health announced today the appointment of Ann L. Potter, MD, as Medical Director.

Dr. Potter comes to Southcoast Behavioral Health from the Providence Center in Providence, R.I., where she worked in the Community Support Program providing psychiatric care for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness as well as the HomeBase Program for homeless individuals with dual diagnosis.

Dr. Potter earned her B.A. at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., and her M.D. from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. She interned at Faulkner Hospital in Boston, Mass, and her residency programs were completed at Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Longwood Psychiatry in Boston.

She is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine, as well as the American Board of Psychiatry. Dr. Potter was a psychiatric clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School.

She is known in the industry for her regional, national and international presentations on such topics as, “Younger and Old(er) Psychiatrists, Partners for the Future”, “Not Just Meds”, “Psychopharmacology Update”, “Suicide Risk Assessment in Jails”, “Section 12s and Their Use In the Community”, “More Than Sad: Teen Depression and Suicide Prevention Educational Forum”, and “Atypical Antipsychotic Use in Primary Care”.

Dr. Potter maintains membership in the following professional societies: American Medical Women’s Association, Massachusetts Medical Society, American Psychiatry Association, Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, Rhode Island Medical Society, Rhode Island Psychiatry Society and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
