About Timothy Byon

Timothy Byon, MD earned his medical degree at De La Salle University College of Medicine, Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines, and completed his residency in family medicine at Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners in Grand Rapids, Mich. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Ca.

He previously practiced at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, AFC Urgent Care in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mercy Health in Grandville, Michigan.

Dr. Byon is certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians.

His interests include promotion of health and wellness and support for community outreach.

  • This was my four kids' first appointments with this medical group. Our experience was great. The medical personnel were kind and attentive. The facility was clean and orderly. The appointment was easy and thorough. Overall, it was a great first appointment.

  • What is sometimes frustrating is how long you have to wait for someone to answer the phone when I call. One other item that isn't really related to the visit, but I want to bring to your attention. I like in RI, yet all my email updates about Covid from Southcoast is always relevant to Mass. I have yet to receive any info about how/what Southcoast if at all is doing in RI

  • After being away from Dr's care for some time I realized over this past weekend that I needed help managing my Blood Pressure. Southcoast Health scheduled me an appointment right away. I am so pleased that they took care of my needs immediately.

  • I saw Dr Byon vs my PCP Dr [Name]. Seen him before. He's really good. Been seeing Dr [Name] for many years and she's great. Hence answers to some questions being lowered a point. Visit was good today. Didn't have to wait overly long. No real suggestions for further improvements I can think of.

  • I arrived 20 minutes early to fill out paperwork. This was an associate filling in for my doctor who was on sabbatical. I waited another 20 minutes. My appointment took 20 minutes, this included the nurse taking notes and the doctor evaluation. The place was empty. When I asked about the wait I was told he was running late. I ended up walking out with the office shutting down and locking up, I had a 3:20 appointment, came in at 3:05. Left at 4:30.

  • Got tetnus shot, great job didn't feel a thing. Very friendly, like Dr byon immensely listen well and explain everything in detail.

  • A telemedicine call was just not appropriate for my problem—I should have waited until someone could see me. The doctor seemed to agree that he could not be of much help or have any answers.

  • The medical assistance , [Name] ( I believe name and spelling) in Portsmouth was very good with her customer service and getting vital signs. She gave me my shingles vaccine also with good skill. Dr Byon was pleasant, affable and a good doctor.Thank you for the work you do.

  • Covid restrictions are inconvenient, but the Doctor is great and I prefer him to many others I have seen! He listens and is not inclined to over medicate or refer when unnecessary

  • Dr Timothy Byon was very professional, engaged, efficient, knowledgeable, evn for my first visit with him. Receptionist at front door was courteous and helpful. Person behind the desk was not so friendly or courteous. After my physical exam I asked where the lab was located and was told I was done. Go. Leave. The front door receptionist was helpful again pointing me to the lab. The lab technician was professional and all business, but managed to provide the only painful needle extraction I've ever experienced.

  • The wait times are 30 mins or longer to speak with a call center representative. This is unacceptable way of providing health care to individuals. The doctors give good care but it's impossible to get messages to them so they can access patients. Impossible for seniors especially. If I had an option I would switch from south coast network. Truly disappointing the state of the system in 2020.

  • I understand the COVID rules, but they are extremely inconvenient. Dr. Byon is great and listens to me and respects our family values and I am glad I found him!

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
