About Stephen Finney

Dr. Stephen Finney is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences then subsequently obtained a Master in Science at Mississippi College. Dr. Finney earned his Doctor of Medicine at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed his residency in Family Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he served as Wellness Director. He is board-certified both by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Dr. Finney implements more of a holistic approach when treating all his patients. He promotes lifestyle modification that focuses on foods, exercise, and mindfulness through meditation technique. In addition, he practices motivational interviewing and listens to his patients in an efficient manner. Dr. Finney believes that health and happiness is achieved through realistic goal setting. His clinical interests include family medicine, obesity medicine, and LGBTQ health.

He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians, Obesity Medical Association, and World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

I was early expecting to wait until appointment time but was into exam room and with Dr.Finney in 5 minutes. He is up to date with medications and answers questions. Good personality and gets to the point without being rude or condescending. Office staff is always helpful and courteous My chart on line was up to date by the time I drove home. This is a new provider for me and I have already recommended him to a co worker.

Dr. Was well prepared to meet with me, He seemed ultimately concerned about my health and my weight checking and speaking with my insurance company for the weight loss medication. He further showed concern the ways that would help besides the medication the steps were with exercise and the foods. Dr Finney goes beyond being a provider. He cares of what's going on with my health care. He has dived into what is going on with me each time I've been in the hospital. Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
