About Robert McGowen

Dr. McGowen is the Chief, Primary Care Services, Wareham Region and a primary care physician at Southcoast Physicians Group’s internal and family medicine practice at Rosebrook.

Board certified in internal medicine, his interests include the management of acute and chronic medical conditions as well as preventive care.

In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. McGowen has experience in physician practice management, health care quality improvement and implementation of electronic medical records.

Dr. McGowen received his medical degree from University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in Rochester, N.Y. He also received a master of science in public health from Harvard University in Boston and completed his internal medicine residency at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass

Dr. McGowen and the other nurse practitioners in the office have always treated me with the utmost respect. They also care about what happens to you and they take the time to talk to you and explain things or try to have options available for you. A lot of doctors don't do that. I will never switch from this doctor ever. I absolutely love the office and I recommend them 100%.

Unfortunately, today's health care system asks its doctors to see as many patients as possible, resulting in a form of piece work. This is the reality, but there are times when patients need extra attention, and doctors are pressured to choose between good medicine and corporate profits. Today, my doctor took extra time to discuss what may be a serious issue, but I knew it was disrupting his schedule and may have shortened his lunch or required him to work later in the day.

I really like Dr McGowen. That's why when my last PCP switched to Hawthorn Medical, from Southcoast. I sent a note through MyChart to ask him if he'd take me on as a new patient. He listens, is attentive, caring, very though. I couldn't ask for a better PCP. However, you can never get in for an appointment! Either with him or with one of the NP's.My only complaint/concern.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
