About Paul Del Guercio

Board certified as a Family Practice physician, Dr. Del Guercio earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and will see patients at Southcoast Family Medicine on Valley Road in Middletown, R.I.

Dr. Del Guercio completed his residency in Family Practice at the Memorial Hospital of RI. He worked in private and group practices in Westport, Mass., and Newport, R.I., prior to 2001, when he became owner of Valley Primary Care, a primary care and walk-in center in Middletown, at the same location where he will continue to practice for Southcoast Health.

Dr. Del Guercio is assistant clinical professor of Family Medicine at Brown University School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice.

In his spare time, Dr. Del Guercio enjoys cycling, tennis and carpentry. He also served as the on-set physician for the Newport filming of Steven Spielberg’s 1997 film Amistad.

  • It was very frustrating that I have to wait on "hold" for nearly half an hour when I tried to set up my appointment. I understand that this is a difficult time, but I feel that I should be able to speak with someone much more quickly when I call the office.

  • Do blood drawing at the same time as the annual well visit, rather than having to arrange another day for that. It is known that this visit involves blood work.

  • In regards to the the 15 minute late for the appointment rule, not this time but previously, I had to make a stop at the bank, so I was 16 minutes late. I was not seen, ended up a cracked tooth caused a serious infection. I had to go to another facility for care. The front desk staff this time were unsympathetic. That was one experience that was unprofessional.

  • I think that Dr. Delguercio was a wonderful physician. Yeah, he's an asset to the island, the community. He's on top of almost everything I have a number of issues and he coordinates things and I I thank him profusely for keeping me alive and a high quality existence, still working part time. I'm up there in age and I'm in pretty good health and all the issues he knows just what to prescribe and how to coordinate. He's very caring, even if he's a New Yorker, I won't hold that against him.

  • I'm [Name] [Name] - I've been a patient of Dr. Delguercio for about 10 or 11 years. He's the best General practitioner I've ever had, I wouldn't go to anyone else. He's thorough, he listens, he understands, he takes my situation into total consideration, he also tells me the parameters of what he suggests - it's a given take and I just totally trust him, and travel now about 40 miles to see him - while I used to live in town - and I just think he not only has the knowledge and the [Name] and the Compassion, but he's just a kind person so I give him a 10 - and when I can't see him, I'll see [Name] his wife - then I'll follow up a Tele-Health visit with Dr. Delguercio. He has my 10.

  • I think the teleconference a poor replacement for an actual visit and when I see the price billed for this service which lasted less than 15 minutes I am outraged over the cost of medical services.

  • The only thing that I can tell you you did well as you did, well the office was excellent, but as far as your lab I have a problem with that. I can't get a hold of it. In Portsmouth I need help. That's it.

  • It was a virtual call. It was the first time speaking with Dr. Delguercio . He was amazing. He knew right away what type of rash I had which turned out to be hives, and it was exactly what he said in terms of his diagnosis and how to care for it and everything worked out perfectly and if they're actually getting much better now after a good 2 weeks, but he is he was fantastic and I would highly recommend him. Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
