About Matthew Philips MD
Dr. Philips is a neurological surgeon in practice with Southcoast Neurosurgery. He is on the medical staff at St. Lukes Hospital in New Bedford, Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham.
A native of New Bedford, Dr. Philips is a graduate of Yale University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania and subspecialty fellowship training in complex and reconstructive spinal surgery.
He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Joint Sections of Trauma and Critical Care and Spinal and Peripheral Nerves and North American Spine Society.
In addition to spinal reconstruction, Dr. Philips has a special interest in spine tumors, degenerative disease of the spine, brain tumors, traumatic brain injury and surgical treatment of epilepsy.
Dr. Philips is board certified in neurological surgery.

Dr Phillips was excellent.
Doctor Phillips is the best Neurosurgeon I've ever known. He is the only one that I will let do surgery on me. Surgeons usually don't show their inner feelings but he does. He is very caring, empathetic, he shows sympathy and speaks very openly about your care and all you've been through He is just so fantastic!

I had a very informative review of the pain I'm experiencing and what is causing it. Exrays provided added clarity to the cause of my discomfort. All my questions were answered professionally and candidly. I am very pleased with both Dr Philips and PA L. Waters informative synopses of the problem, treatment and what to expect afterwards.
Dr Philips was easy to understand and gave me a dx contrary to what another staff member had told me the week before. He was thorough in his questioning and listened to what I had to say. He explained that his staff was overly cautious and that I did not need surgery—the answer I hoped I would hear. Down to earth and sense of humor go a long way

I think Dr. Phillips is the best, best, best neurosurgeon in the East Coast. I mean, he's the best provider. I'm sorry, I'm not saying it correctly, but there is no other neurosurgeon in our area. Even in Boston, he's the best. So I tell everybody, if you need any kind of neurological stuff done to see him, he's fantastic.
