About Marvin Berman

Board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine, Dr. Berman has been practicing in Fall River for more than 20 years and has been on staff at Charlton Memorial Hospital since 1989.

A magna cum laude graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine, he completed his internship and residency at University Hospital in Boston. He received his training in gastroenterology at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He was an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. He lectures at Brown University and teaches at Boston Medical Center.

Dr. Berman has a special interest in liver disease and has published widely on this topic as well as other gastrointestinal conditions. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

  • Dr. Berman is a very professional and he knows his business and he's very communicable and understandable and I have hearing impairment and he takes the time to explain things so that I can understand and I've been with him for many years and I could not rate him any more highly because he's just a wonderful physician.

  • Thus was my first visit. I was very impressed with Dr. Berman. He had great concern for my health issues. My complaint that I went in for. He went over family history. He listened to everything I had to say. I am getting my testing done soon.

  • Took three months for them to even call me based on my primary's referral, then took another two months to get an appointment. My after summary report has items on the questionnaire that weren't even addressed or asked of me. Doctor's bedside manner made me uncomfortable.

  • Only thing I would say is that when I was called for this fibroscan appointment, I was not told not to eat or drink anything 3 hours before. When I arrived they did adjust my time so that I could still have the test! I was happy about that!

He is always... eager to answer any questions or concerns that I have, explains things in a way that I understand. He's the only doctor that I am 100% comfortable with, not only, you know, being in his in, you know, in his office and going through a an exam or, or a meeting with him, but also... in anything that he says. Any anything that he has to say, I am 100% on board with. I trust him with my life.

  • My only concern about this visit was the length of time it took to get an in-office appointment with a specialist. I was offered a televisit within a few weeks, but I was referred to a specialist by my primary care physician for a specific problem and the earliest in-person appt with any of the doctors in the practice was THREE MONTHS out. I don't mind a tele-health visit with my primary care physician because he has been my doctor for 50 years, but with a new doctor, it's not acceptable.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
