About James Watson

Board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Watson earned his medical degree and master’s in public health at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York. He will see patients at Truesdale Medical GI Associates, 1030 President Ave. in Fall River.

Dr. Watson completed his residency in internal medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, followed by a fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Duke University in Durham, N.C.

His fields of interest include therapeutic endoscopy, diagnosis and staging of hepato-biliary and gastric malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease, Barrett’s esophagus, and colon cancer screening.

His publications include the Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

  • I found myself in a somewhat critical situation needing a GI specialist on admission to Tobey Hospital, Wareham, MA. I received excellent care while in Tobey from his Nurse Practitioner as well as the rest of the team. I was given a follow up appointment soon after discharge at which time a capsule endoscopy was scheduled within days. Dr. Watson was excellent at pulling information together and explaining findings of recent endoscopy/colonoscopy along with recommendations on how to proceed.

  • On my first visit, Dr. Watson addressed my concerns and made a plan to alleviate my discomfort as well as order tests that might reveal underlying conditions. This was done while affirming my past compliance.

  • Everything and everyone was excellent except I was told I had to call my insurance for an prior authorization for a procedure. The insurance asked why the providers office didn't call. That didn't make sense to the insurance rep or me. If the doctor orders the procedure, the support staff follows the process to get it done. I did that job for 13 years and ALWAYS had to take care of prior authorization for our patients. I understand it's time consuming, but I was tempted to skip the procedure that I may really need to prevent serious illness because of insurance hoops. I got the auth because I knew what to do. Other patients may not be able to handle that.

  • The doctor was very attentive. I was awake during some of my past procedures with a doctor at another facility and the previous doctor's notes were not entirely accurate. I also noticed that evening when I got to sign on to my chat that I was on three to four psych medications that I was never prescribed to my knowledge, and some of my past diagnosis were not accurate. These discrepancies had nothing to do with the doctor but I'm sure they had an impact on the way he looked at my case

  • The support team is very important, but a good and caring physician like doctor WAtson would compensate if his team had not been up to their job. Actually the entire team performed at top level.0

  • I'm socially awkward so it's always been a big deal when staff are patient with me. I tend to fumble over my words when nervous, especially when meeting new people. It's always so important to me that staff are kind and patient. Everyone I interacted with today was wonderful. The staff in this department are gems in an industry which has desensitized so many people. Tell them thank you for me, that their kindness and patience with me made me feel less like an idiot to be tolerated, and more like I was cared about and reassured. Thank you, it really meant a lot to me.

  • My nieces nurse reported to me that he seemed agitated and dismissive of her. This was my nieces first visit with him and he didn't seem interested at all. I will not be having her seen by him again

  • Experience was prompt and informative -- facts regarding visit purpose, along with recent medical history were reviewed with a view of CT noting results of Southcoast vascular appointments over the past year. The interaction of the various disciplines within Southcoast is particularly noteworthy.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
