About Hector Mateo

Dr. Mateo received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in the Dominican Republic. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Pinnacle Health Hospitals in Harrisburg, Pa., where subsequently he was asked to serve as Chief Medical Resident.

He completed a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia/ Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.

Dr. Mateo has been practicing in the Fall River area since 2007. He specializes in respiratory disorders such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory failure and pulmonary fibrosis.

He also has expertise in the care of critically ill patients and the treatment of sleep disorders.

Dr. Mateo is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine.

He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Mateo is fluent in Spanish.

  • Better front desk help. It's terrible, they do not have there priorities in order.

  • Wonderful experience (if one can experience Wonderful when not feeling well. Everything went smoothly with X-RAY appointment. Hopefully results posted on MYCHART soon so to provide Stress release from worry.

  • First of all, I'm going back to you at one of your original question was did they know my medical history? And they did, they did the homework before beforehand and I appreciate that. Beyond that the doctor spelled it out clearly doesn't pull any punches, but usually there is some optimism there what may possibly can be done and how it possibly can approve of it and I appreciate that as well.

  • The staff made sure that the physician had all the information he needed right in front of him, including the CPAP usage printout and other pertinent information he needed to give proper care. In addition, the care that I received during my PFT by the respiratory therapist was exceptional.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
