Desiree Steimer, MD graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. She then furthered her medical expertise, graduating with distinction and earning her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, KY. Dr. Steimer then completed her general thoracic surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. In addition, she is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and Women in Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Steimer is an Associate Surgeon in the Division of Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Steimer was inspired to become a thoracic surgeon due to a personal interest in lung cancer and smoking cessation programs, and thrives to excel in the complex and ever-evolving field. Her clinical interests focus on malignancies within the chest including lung cancer, esophageal cancer, thymic tumors and mesothelioma. Dr. Steimer’s goal is to provide compassionate and individualized care to her patients.
When not at work, Dr. Steimer enjoys hiking, kayaking, and painting with watercolors.
