About David Chesney

Dr. Chesney is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics and is on the medical staff at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.

Dr. Chesney received his medical degree from the Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa. He completed a combined residency program in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he also served as chief resident.

He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Physicians.

  • Medical assistant called 2 hours prior my appointment. To me that was a bit early. Caught me off guard usually it's a half hour before your appointment.

  • Check-in was prompt, quick, easy - the doctor was on time. The only critique I really have is that I needed to provide blood work on my physical and there was no available appointments - and usually I just kind of walk down the hall, and I realize that the covid does change things - but I do feel like there should be blood work appointments available for people that have physicals. I did call the office to make an appointment the day I left and still waiting to can get a phone call back to schedule blood work. So that's the one thing I do have a complaint about - other than that, my experience was great.

  • Twice out of 3 visits in a 2 week span( 1 office and 2 tele visits) we had oncall doctors and we were extremely pleased that our daughter was taken care of in such a timely manner as does her normal doctor would. We were able to avoid having to risk bringing her to the ER because Dr. Chesney and the doctors covering for him were so great and called back so quickly and helping diagnose and get her on the right medication!

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
