About Brett Hurteau

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Hurteau is a graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He completed his residency in family medicine at the Brown University Family Medicine Residency Program at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital, where he served as chief resident.

Dr. Hurteau is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Osteopathic Association, and the Massachusetts Medical Society.

He is a clinical assistant professor of Family Medicine at Brown University and is on the community faculty — Brown Family Practice Residency program.

Dr. Hurteau is a long-time resident of New Bedford.

  • When I came in to register the person at the front desk was on the opposite desk she was on the phone and her cell phone as well she proceeded to yell across the desks to ask why we were there then she proceeded to ask us our information I had to shout my information back for everyone to hear when I return back I stopped to ask if I just go to the lab to get my lab work done she still was on both phones and trying to answer my question in the meantime speaking to two different people on the phone she stated to me to head over to the lab and the person would qualify me I sat there for about 5 minutes the person in the lab came out and said if I was waiting for labs I stated yes she then informed me that the person behind the desk to not put the orders in yet she continued to for my name she then stated the person at the front desk did not put the orders in right she then took my blood for the test I did not appreciate it having to yell my name for everyone to hear not very professional

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Helpfulness of Clerks & Receptionists, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
