About Anna Somerto

Dr. Somerto earned her medical degree at the Turku Medical School at the University of Turku in Finland and completed a residency in neurology at University of California, Los Angeles. She also completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology / epilepsy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

She has special expertise and interest in the treatment of epilepsy and seizures in both adults and adolescents, along with general neurology, including testing for nerve and muscle disorders.

She is board certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology (EEG and EMG testing) and sleep medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Epilepsy Society.

  • Everyone was professional

  • Dr Somerto was a outstanding new neurologist for my daughters complex medical/neuro brain needs for the first visit!

  • The amount of time I had to wait to get the initial tele health appointment was really long... about one month. And then once I had the appointment, I was told I would have to wait an additional 20 days until I could come in for the testing I need. When you don’t feel well and something is very wrong in your body, it’s hard to wait this long. Especially after coming from primary care first... since you can’t self refer into Neurology. Too long a process for people needing this type of care.

After several years and many visits to 4 [Name] hospitals, she was the one to not only diagnose me but also made referrals to other appropriate providers for me. Now all of those providers are working as a team to help me.

  • The front desk staff almost appear stand-offish due to COVID. I got the impression that they just wish we wouldn’t come in. They also see you standing there and they act like they don’t. Then they try to push you off to someone else like can you see what this patient needs. It comes off a bit cold. We are all trying to get through this and we can’t stop life because of it. The clinical staff [Name] and Dr Somerto were great! As well as the checkout staff I think her name was [Name]

  • Dr. Somerto listened to my issues more intently than my previous doctor and was very proactive in determining my illness. She quickly responded with follow up test plans and treatment. I was very impressed with her attitude and response.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
