About Anna Somerto

Dr. Somerto earned her medical degree at the Turku Medical School at the University of Turku in Finland and completed a residency in neurology at University of California, Los Angeles. She also completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology / epilepsy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

She has special expertise and interest in the treatment of epilepsy and seizures in both adults and adolescents, along with general neurology, including testing for nerve and muscle disorders.

She is board certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology (EEG and EMG testing) and sleep medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Epilepsy Society.

  • Dr. Somerto's office works with me and books were its convenient for me to get my shots. There always polite and Dr. Somerto is the only Dr. Who has controlled my migrains. Shes the best.

  • Beautiful, clean facility. Doctor was on time. Medical assistant who took my vitals was pleasant and professional. [Name] at check-in was pleasant, professional and made great eye contact. Otherwise, it was not a productive, patient-centered experience. One of the reasons I selected Dr. Somerto is because of her video on where she mentions the personal connection with her patients multiple times. I didn't feel this at all. I didn't feel much warmth or care from her. It took 4 months to get this appointment and I took half a day out of work. It was virtually a waste of time, in great part because Dr. Somerto doesn't/wouldn't do a key test that would provide further evidence for the diagnosis. The office has the equipment to do the test but she stated she only does the test on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She knew why I was going for this appointment and yet I wasn't able to do a key test on the same day -- and it will be another 6 weeks until the next appointment. And, another half day out of work for me and 1 hour roundtrip. Also, the doctor's last appointment of any day is 2:30 PM. This doesn't seem like patient-centered care and great access and availability to care. At checkout when I asked for the CPT codes for the test so I could check with my insurance, I was told it "should" be okay. "Should" doesn't tell me anything about my insurance. Then, it was a frustrating experience of 3 office ladies telling me to call billing. I've gone through this before - going around in circles with billing, the office and the insurance company. It seemed like they didn't really want to help. Finally, after I politely asked multiple times, the medical assistant went and easily got the codes from the doctor. Also, except for [Name] at check-in, no one was wearing name tags or they had their name tags turned around so the name didn't show. Patients would like to know the name of the person they're interacting with. Overall, this was a time-wasting experience that was not patient-centered for many reasons. Thank you.

  • Since it was my first appointment with the doctor I have no reference to say what to expect; but I have to say that the doctor seems to be very careful about and listening to me in in order to make a picture of my been the fist appointment

  • The people at the front desk were polite, courteous and timely. The nurses aide was very polite, helpful and friendly. The doctor was exceptional. I liked being with her. She's very informative and informed about my case.

  • Could not understand the health care worker or the girls at the front desk because of the masks.

  • I love this Neurologist. She is so thorough and doesn't just prescribe medications. She wants to find out what's wrong not just treat symptoms

  • I waited around 45 minutes before the specialist entered the room to conduct my test. She said she was backed up because another patient came in late. Not good enough of a reason to leave me waiting that long. Thank you for your attention.

  • Dr Sommerto listens to my concerns about my health and continues to try new ways to help me. She has been very understanding that I have aging parents and that I've had to reschedule appointments because of an unforseen health emergency with them.

  • I wasn't sure whether my 'visit' was a telehealth or a normal phone call.I'm pretty sure it was a phone call, which is just fine. The site might brieflyexplain the difference? It had nothing to do with the doc office. Very goodsetup.

  • Everyone in this office is exceptional and have helped and continue to help me throughout this medical ordeal.

  • It is a good experience to go here. The support staff remember me, and help me find a quiet place to wait for the doctor (those loud waiting room TVs--which are proven in the psychological literature to be detrimental to people's mental well-being are particularly detrimental to those of us with neurological health problems). The doctor was very much on time, aware of the procedure goals, and gave the most relevant advice on departure (to ice the affected area). Just put the TV's muted with captions and I'd be happy to recommend the facility to anyone.

  • Southcoast is asking personal questions upon arrival in public places. I do not feel that southcoast values privacy, safety, health OR security.

  • The provider didn't offer an alternative medicine for muscel relaxants. She also did not ask me about any latex allegies when given a prescription for injection. And if it want for my own research i wouldnt have known. Provider was helpful and looked for ways to improve my migraines.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
