About Abena Addo

Dr. Addo earned her medical degree at the University of Ghana Medical School. She then completed an internship in pediatrics, surgery and internal medicine at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana, followed by an internal medicine internship at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Addo completed her residency in internal medicine at St. Agnes Hospital.

Dr. Addo is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Her clinical interests include travel medicine and preventive care. She is a member of the American College of Physicians and the International Society of Travel Medicine

  • My sister who has a disability and had back to back appointments. We arrived a half hour early and I was immediately called in but said I was not yet available because our mother was meeting us to chaperone my sister. The medical assistant was impatient and rushed us. As soon as my Mom arrived again I was called in and asked if I filled out my form . I had not had a moment to fill it out again she seemed impatient. I felt so rushed and unimportant like she was dying to get out of work. My oxygen level was 86 and not checked again. Again showing total lack of interest if her equipment was working correctly I've never been lower than 98. The kicker was when she said my doctor was in a telehealth appointment and would be with me when she finished. So why the annoying rush. So I was taken in aggressively early yet sat until 5 minutes after my scheduled appointment to meet my pcp for the very first time. My pcp was great! Very attentive.The experience before was unnecessary and annoying.

  • This is my first visit with Dr. Addo, I was welcomed well in the reception area, treated very politely. The appointment happened on time Dr. Addo introduced herself and proceeded with an extensive questionnaire, which was absolutely what I had expected, for a first visit with her at the end. We scheduled a next appointment, and will proceed with some preliminary testing as well.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
