About Rose Shorter

Dr. Rose Shorter completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Dr. Rose then continued her medical expertise earning her Doctorate’s degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, New York. She then finished her residency at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. She is board certified in internal medicine.

Dr. Shorter was inspired to become a physician with the desire to be of service to the world and the drive to understand how and why things work. She says patients who have suffered incredible loss, pain and unthinkable challenges and still show up to their life bravely asking, what is next, also inspire her.

Outside of work, Dr. Shorter is passionate about raising her family, running, reading, cooking and playing the saxophone.

    Dr Shorter was awesome! She listened and talked to my Mom about all her medical needs. She did a lengthy history and made sure she covered everything. She made my Mom who's 90 feel very comfortable with everything. I especially noticed the extra time with us and did not at any time rush the appointment.     This was my first visit to South Coast Health to see Dr. Shorter. She was prepared to see me. She was very welcoming, professional, really exceeded any expectations I have. The thoroughness of my Medicare well exam far exceeded what I received in other places. When I left there, granted I'd only seen her once, I feel like she'd been a doctor of mine for years. I am not...Not that I love to go to the doctor, but I can honestly say I'm looking forward to my next appointment with her. She's truly a great professional.

I live in Hyannis and that's about 1 hr ride to Wareham. But to me it is worth it for a good doctor

The practical aspects of transitioning from one practice to another have been challenging with scheduling first appointments and transfer of medical records, however, the challenge has been worth the effort and the extra travel. Dr. Shorter is an exceptional physician who listens attentively , asks important questions, and offers thoughtful guidance based on medical knowledge, best practices, and available resources. A wonderful PCP for fairly routine wellness patients, she is also skilled in managing patients with complicated medical issues. Compassionate and supportive, Dr. Shorter gracefully makes time to care for her patients when serious medical concerns arise.

Southcoast Health physician profiles now feature star ratings.  Below, you’ll find frequently asked questions about our process for calculating the ratings.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
