About Robert Schwengel

Dr. Schwengel has been in the practice of general and invasive cardiology with Cardiovascular Associates of Rhode Island since 1993. He received his doctor of medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Science in Washington.

Dr. Schwengel completed his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore. He is a fellow in the American College of Cardiology and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. Dr. Schwengel is board certified in cardiovascular disease, adult echocardiography and stress echocardiography. He has special interests in coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and valvular heart disease.

  • Excellent care

  • I needed to see my provider due to some concerns I had. I got an appt right away. I am very happy with my care here.

  • The visit was and is, always a positive experience. All in office proceedings were handled in a timely manner and when the doctor come in, he had all pertinent information. As with all providers in the network, you leave with visit summery. Very satisfied.

  • Given the limitations due to Covid, telehealth was a good alternative. Unfortunately I don't have a smart phone so was unable to meet literally face to face. I can see where this might be an issue with elder and poorer populations, and I feel so much more can be picked up from in person meeting about a person's health.So perhaps adding a Zoom feature might assist?

  • Good visit with a cardiology specialist, Dr. Schwengel. I've been seeing him since the mid-2000s, so we're nearly old friends by now. Excellent doctor, listens and pays attention, explains things clearly. Also set up and did some of the prep work for my aorta repair (open heart) in 2007. That was an ordeal, but Dr. Schwengel not only discovered the original problem, but was excellent during the recovery.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
