About Robert Schwengel

Dr. Schwengel has been in the practice of general and invasive cardiology with Cardiovascular Associates of Rhode Island since 1993. He received his doctor of medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Science in Washington.

Dr. Schwengel completed his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore. He is a fellow in the American College of Cardiology and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. Dr. Schwengel is board certified in cardiovascular disease, adult echocardiography and stress echocardiography. He has special interests in coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and valvular heart disease.

The nurses were very kind, and speaking to them reassured a lot of the anxiety I had over the visit. The doctor himself was very professional, respectful and polite. He answered all the questions I had in an understandable way, which also helped ease my anxieties over the process and my health issues. He was definitely dedicated in being thorough with investigating my health issues which was a breath of fresh air for me; my previous cardiologist dismissed my symptoms as anxiety despite very serious symptoms and a heavy family history. Just the first visit really renewed my faith in doctors just a bit again, after multiple awful experiences with other doctors (not from this practice) due to me being young & my mental health diagnoses.

My adult daughter has special needs and was brought to see Dr. Schwengel by her group home staff person, I had explained, I'm my daughter's legal guardian. I had explained her medical history, and her recent issues to the office staff who had entered it into the records, and they were supposed to explain it to the doctor before my daughter's visit. However, the doctor was unaware of her history, that being said, the group home staff person reported that my daughter had a very good visit, and the doctor did very well with her. Thank you.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
