About John Carroll

Dr. Carroll is co-Chief of Urology for Southcoast Hospitals.

He earned his Medical Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed an internship and residencies in Surgery and Urology at New England Medical Center in Boston, where he served as chief resident in Urology.

He has special interest and expertise in urologic oncology, urolithiasis and pediatric urology and women’s incontinence. He has extensive experience in laparoscopic urology procedures.

He is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Urology at Tufts University School of Medicine where he has received an “Excellence in Teaching” award.

He is a diplomat of the American Board of Urology and a member of the American Urological Association.

  • This provider was absolutely wonderful. I was treated with respect. He answered all questions. He answered in a manner, where can understand everything. It's very important to elderly people. I would recommend this provider and facility to anyone.

  • Dr. Carroll has been my urologist for a number of years, has performed lithotrypses (sp.?) on me and inserted a stent at one point. He is well aware of my condition, my age, and the needs for follow-up procedures. His demeanor with patients should serve as a model for those entering the profession. He is caring, understanding, and extremely knowledgeable. Not only would I recommend him to my family and acquaintances, but I have.

  • The only question ... complaint that I have is the office is definitely laid out wrong. You have to walk all the way down the hall to get a urine sample. Then all the way back to the hall to give it to somebody. They ... I couldn't do it the first time. I had to do it again the second time. I walk with a cane. I'm not able to walk a mile and a half. And then, on the ... after we had seen the doctor, we had to walk all the way back down, past the bathroom, down the hall, down another hall, to check out. I think that they should ... there should be a different way of laying the ... the office out. I think whoever designed it was ... designed it very poorly, and that's my complaint. Thank you.

  • Dr Carroll is one of the most caring and compassionate doctors that I have ever met. He truly cares about his patients. I was admitted for emergency surgery having never been to [Name] [Name] Hospital before.I was assigned Dr. Carroll as my doctor. Everyone at the hospital from the Emergency Room staff to the nurses on the floor were kind and explained everything. The surgical nurses and doctors from anesthesia were great. I have no complaints in fact I have decided to transfer my care to Southcoast. I've never met a nicer or kinder group of people. Thank you so much!

  • This was my first visit with Dr. Carroll. He immediately made me feel at ease. He was very knowledgeable about the treatments that I have tried and offered several other treatments I could consider. I would not hesitate to see him again!

  • The girls at the front desk were not very professional.

  • Dr. John Carroll always seems to be in a hurry which makes the patient nervous or unable to communicate effectively with him. However he is a good doctor, just always in a hurry to get to the next patient.In previous visits, and noted in those surveys taken, I've noticed unsanitary conditions in the examining room. Things have improved in this regard and the examining room I was in was very clean.

  • The Dr was great my problem was my apt was at 2pm then i was put in a rm and I had to wait 1 HR to be seen and not once did the tech come in to see if I was fine I am a diabetic and I just had a cardiac cath done in the last mo very poor

The Doctor and staff always try and accommodate me by putting me up front in the office waiting rooms near an exit etc..... and usually leave the door open so I am not anxious. This helps me immensely! The doc is also understanding of my disorder....

  • Check in service was fast and polite. Wait was long, over an hour past appointment time. This has happened before. Doc was polite and well informed, apologized for the wait. Representative checking me out was kind of rude and impersonal. There was a picture up outside the window with all the staff wearing "7 dwarfs" shirts with nicknames. Not surprising she was "Grumpy". Nice way to treat your clients especially after they waited over an hour to be seen.

  • Med listened and explained issues and possiblilty that meds could help and side effects. MA WAS very pleasant introduced herself.

  • 1. I was told the co-pay was $45 which I questioned. They didn't have or ask for my current health insurance card. The current co-pay is $30.2. I would prefer that the flow of this practice be less rushed which might allow for better listening.3. Dr. Carroll was quite focused on my reason for being there. using the computer he was knowledgeable re: my medical history.

  • Yeah, he was running about an hour behind due to issues I guess during the course of the day or whatever. I mean I had to wait over an hour just to get to see him. So I'm told it was only three providers there. I guess there's usually more but we disappointing that I had to wait and then there were people walking in behind me that were going in before me. So it was a little frustrating.

  • The staff was fabulous. They really worked hard to get me in even though it turned out. I was in the wrong location to see the doctor. I was supposed to see Dr. Carol to be a very happy situation for me, even though I didn't know him again. He listen carefully make sure to take care of all aspects of my concerns and where they needed to call for a follow up because I was having some symptoms. I didn't understand the stop was patient and responded to the couple of extra calls I needed to make so I have absolutely no complaints with the people there and the doctor really went above and beyond the only reason I didn't give a 10 to the*

  • The experience could have been better if we had seen the doctor right away. For example, our appointment was 1:10, and he didn't come into the examining room until 1:40. So that's the only criticism that I have, was it was a little long waiting in the in the examining room.

  • Consult only with Dr.Connell. He is very knowledgeable,he listens, takes time with his patients. Converses in layman terms. He is warm,compassionate. Just a very good Physician.

  • Positives: Took me that same day Took me in quicklyAll staff especially the "checking out" staff Was very courteous and friendly and helpful Ordered testing I felt was necessaryAppointment setup for testing procedure was done at time of visit Appointment set up was handled very nicely getting me an appointment quickly and close to present Negatives:inundated with large amount of patients for covid and small office space set up was concerning Spacing between individuals was not always adhered to as a patient kept moving closer and closer in line toward me and I had little real estate to move away while said patient was talking to another staff member I couldn't find the hand sanitizer going outOffices were slightly dirty on floor Over all: it's a very small medical building and it is difficult to keep people within 6 feet however there wasn't enough direction to those who weren't adhering to the rules and spots outlined to stand the line duration was longer than expected but non the less I was checked in quickly and had same day visit Therefore overall I'm satisfied however I would like check out lobby staff to enforce politely to others to adhere to distancing since there already is limited space and covid is a major life threatening concern, especially with my on going health issues, which is why I avoided just going to the hospital in the first place.

  • Doctor was, seemed like he was in a hurry to go from patient to patient. And I had (INAUDIBLE) (INAUDIBLE) 10 o'clock appointment that lasted 2 hours. So I thought that was kind of excessive. Otherwise Dr. Carroll was an excellent doctor and he provided excellent care.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
