About Joann Chang

Joann Chang, MD earned her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. She then completed her General Internal Medicine Residency through Brown University’s program at Rhode Island Hospital. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Chang’s clinical interests include preventative care, complex care management, and mental health.

Dr. Chang chose to become a primary care physician to serve her patients with preventative care. Her personal philosophy of care involves empowering patients to make their best healthcare decisions. Doctor-patient relationships are important to Dr. Chang, and she believes that these healthcare partnerships bring the best possible care.

In her free time, Dr. Chang enjoys reading and practicing yoga.

This was my first apt with Dr. Chang. The Doctor and all staff were very pleasant and informative. I had to wait @ 20-30 minutes for the doctor but that seems to be the norm in most doctor's offices. On my way out, the receptionist was very pleasant and emphasized that I should call any time if I am not well and there would always be someone that could see me. I would recommend this office.

Dr Chang is so easy to talk to. If I'm scheduled for a short follow-up visit and I come in with 3 new concerns she gives me all the time I need to communicate my symptoms and then educate me as to what's going on. I never leave a visit feeling she is locked into the time. Also I love the way she makes continuous, caring eye contact with me while she's typing - truly a skill since the onset of the EMR many years ago. She's the best at it!! I'm so thankful she's my PCP!

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
