About Hector Lopez-Marquez

Dr. Hector Lopez attended Cornell University before earning his doctorate from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Lopez then chose to train at the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed a residency in Anesthesiology, followed by a Fellowship in Pain Medicine. Having connections to the New York State and the Greater Boston areas, he is excited to have the opportunity to join the Southcoast Health System serving the southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island communities.

Dr. Lopez’s philosophy of care is rooted in the belief that all patients who suffer from chronic pain deserve care that is compassionate, thoughtful, evidence-based, and integrative in nature. Dr. Lopez treats each patient in the context of their unique biopsychosocial situation and approaches each individual patient as a whole that is more than any one individual medical diagnosis.

He is board certified in both Pain Management and Anesthesiology.

I had an appt with Dr Lopez a week after seeing [Name] my neurosurgeon and it was day and night. Dr Lopez listened to me and was concerned to see me in so much. He went thru my MRI and saw what was there in my preop study. Dr Cobery told me "there was nothing wrong w/ me normal MRI and no need for surgery". Dr Lopez on the other hand saw that was incorrect information and it's noted in MyChart. He helped me a lot..thank God! To be respected as a patient felt great. Dr Lopez is one of the best doctors I have seen

The Dr. was very thorough. He listened to my concerns, asked extensively about my previous care, and treatments I have tried in the past and what I currently do. He gave me a valid option to look into that wasn't just throwing more medication at the problem, was honest about the risks and gave me a plan to move forward. I didn't feel rushed at all, and he was very polite and professional. I left the appointment with a little bit of hope for the first time in a long time.

I have been in south coast four times to get this issue addressed. This is the first time that anyone has seriously paid attention and was able to determine probable cause of ailment. He showed tremendous knowledge and was able to provide me with multiple possible treatments to correct the problem. absolutely fantastic. I just regret that he was the fourth or fifth provider I had to see in your system.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
