About Erika Mello

Dr. Mello earned her bachelor’s degree at Oberlin College in Ohio. She earned her medical degree from Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Jersey and completed her residency at the University of Connecticut in internal medicine.

Dr. Mello is a board certified in internal medicine primary care physician and has over 12 years of experience. Her experience includes both rural and metropolitan medicine, and inpatient and outpatient care. Dr. Mello is certified in Medical Acupuncture, has training in osteopathic manipulation and knowledge of alternative therapies, supplementing her western medicine education.

She is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the New England Society of Medical Acupuncture.

  • Yeah, well, the provider just likes to pass on ... me on to just other different Drs. It's like she doesn't ... you know, I'm just too complex for her, and she doesn't want to take the challenges, and it's very concerning to me, and it's very frustrating. I call her for certain things that are important to me, she doesn't think it's important. That's all I can say.

  • I'm very pleased with the way the nurse talked to me about my medications. We went over it. We cleared up prescriptions that we're not taking. He was very helpful and... and very caring. Dr. Erika Mello, likewise, was very good. We talked about many things. She's happy... concerned about my weight had dropped. And I talked to her about how I can lose more weight. I've already lost 32 pounds over the last 2 years. And I would like to move some more, and she helped me and gave me some good ideas and incentives of how to do it. Over all the... the appointment was very, very fulfilling. And I did not have to wait that long. I maybe waited 10 minutes, and I was in the office talking to the nurse and then Dr. Mello. I was very pleased. Thank you very much. Take care.

  • Dr. Mello makes me feel well cared for. Listens to any questions I have and takes time to answer thoroughly with helpful understandable suggestions. Dr Erika Mello is a caring compassionate physician with excellent staff as well.

  • The wait time of the office. I was told to expect a call from the office one hour before my call with my provider and I did not receive that call until the actual time of my original scheduled time with my provider. The Whole Telehealth I just found very uncomfortable. I prefer in person visits.

  • Not sure this is an efficient system when one is sick. I was expecting a call back from the office, it is hard when the patient is weak and sick.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
