About Emmet Eby

Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and passed critical care boards in 2008, Dr. Eby has been a member of the medical staff at Tobey Hospital for more than 20 years.

A graduate of the University of Kansas Medical School, Dr. Eby completed a residency in internal medicine at the State University of New York Hospital in Stony Brook and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine and critical care at Rhode Island Hospital, Brown University in Providence, R.I.

He has served as medical director of pulmonary medicine and critical care at Tobey and the bariatric surgery program at Southcoast Hospitals.

He is a fellow of the American College of Chest Surgeons and a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Physicians.

  • Your PULMONARY staff was kind, friendly, patient, timley, and well educated. Katie made sure to clear old items like discontinued medicatons from my chart, as well as ensure I was comfortable. [Name], and Dr. Eby are an amazing team that listen. Dr. Eby is an amazing Doctor who looks at the big picture. He listens to my concerns and past history. Dr. Eby takes time to look in my chart at previous hospitalizations, lab testing and even notes from other doctors to find the best possible treatment for my condition. He thinks outside the box. He is very knowledgeable and up to date on all the treatments. I can honestly say I was blessed meeting him 9 years ago. I had septic pneumonia while pregnant. He took care of me, checked on me while in the hospital, and every other time I was hospitalized for breathing issues. Many doctors don't do that. Actually, Dr. Eby is the ONLY doctor who ever checked in on me during hospitalizations. My own primary care doctor (s) have never done that once, in the ten years I have lived here! Even while being South Coast Doctors for a South Coast Patient. Pretty wild! Perhaps the standars of care have changed? Regardless, Dr. Eby found the time to check in on me.Dr. Eby shows concern, compassion,and goes above and beyond, especially compared to some of the other Doctors in your company. Which is why from that day on he has been my doctor. In fact, he is the only doctor I have kept with for 9 years. Again I am blessed to be his patient. Dr.Eby and his staff are an asset to your corporation. I mean,... medical facility. I think you should give his staff a big raise! They always return my phone calls promptly, ensure my medication is available, and spend hours filling out extensive paperwork to cover expensive medication costs and pre authorizations along with letters to insurance explaining why costs for treatment are necessary They even go as far to call the pharmacy's personally when CVS decides they are too busy to awnser the phone. Absolutely amazing, dedicated hard working staff! They are 5+ stars!I hope this answers your questions and concerns. Have a wonderful week and summer!

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
