About Douglas Garland

Douglas Garland, PA-C, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Amherst, MA. He developed his expertise in the medical field when he completed a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He has nearly 30 years of experience as a physician assistant, specializing in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.

Douglas’s personal philosophy of care is to treat all of his patients as he would wish to be treated. By paying close attention to his patients’ medical history and needs, he cares for them efficiently and effectively. Douglas makes sure to focus his care on the whole person with empathy and compassion.

Douglas’s commitment to community has always been evident. Before his time as a physician’s assistant, he served in the Peace Corps on an outer island in Fiji. He also volunteers annually at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a camp for children with major medical issues.

Outside of work, Douglas enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis and ice hockey, sailing, fishing, and playing the guitar.

  • Hello. This is [Name] and my appointment was yesterday. The reception staff with excellent. even though they were busy, there were very kind and cheerful. The young lady who brought me in was named [Name] She was wonderful and she did my intake, I believe. And then the doctor was kind of personable... was a physicians assistant. But he was great answered. All my questions everybody in the practice is very nice. The office is clean. The facility looks great, parking was good even though there was a lot of lot of patients there that day, everything was wonderful and I would highly recommend it.

  • My experience was wonderful. I actually had an appointment tomorrow but thought it was today. The employee at the front desk was so kind and polite. She worked me right in so I did not have to leave and come back tomorrow. I appreciate her efforts on my behalf as I have limited mobility due to recent traumatic injury resulting in 5 fractures in my back. I have really had only one unsatisfactory experience with SouthCoast. It was last week at spine center appointment. Unfortunately, you did not ask me to rate them. I have a lot to say.

  • My only complaint was that he did not seem to know anything about me. I don't think he looked at my chart even regarding what had been in done in the past in his own practice. I was going to list the things he was not aware of but the list is too long so let's just say he knew nothing about me.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
