About Barbara Soares

Barbara Soares, MD, received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Boston University School of Medicine and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

Dr. Soares is licensed to practice in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Massachusetts Medical Society and the North American Menopause Society. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as a NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner.

Her clinical interests include menopause management, hormone replacement therapy and abnormal pap smears.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her three sons.

Very happy I made the 35 mile trip to Wareham. Long wait to get a new patient appointment, but worth it. Please clarify online that she only sees patients in Wareham office. Scheduler did not state that when i called New Bedford for my appointment. My referring physician thought she was in Fall River??

I like Dr. Soares communication style and how knowledgeable she is. I'm glad she is now my gynecologist. I wasn't taken back until 15 minutes after my appointment time and waited in the exam room. Dr Soares is very qualified and a no nonsense type if provider with a direct way of speaking. She considers herself "conservative" which I took to mean cautious and leary of new or alternative type treatments that haven't been well reviewed or tested. I think her advice is good but I wouldn't call her bedside manner warm and fuzzy.

So I went in to see Barbara for some concerns and she listened very carefully to what I had to say and what I was experiencing. And then after my examination, she gave me some suggestions. And she also gave me some follow up information as well as you know, let me know that pending test results, she would let me know how to proceed. She also suggested proceed, not a procedure, but some additional testing. And I felt like she definitely understood where my concerns were and definitely made me feel comfortable and seemed to, you know, really care about my concerns and my condition.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office. The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
