About Ahmet Burakgazi

Dr. Burakgazi earned his medical degree at the Hacettepe University School of Medicine Ankara, Turkey. He then completed his neurology residency and Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship at George Washington University, School of Medicine in Washington DC. Before joining Southcoast, Dr. Burakgazi served as a staff neurologist at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He has been distinguished as an associate professor of neurology at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

Dr. Burakgazi’s extensive clinical experience has helped him to become an expert in the region on treating and managing a broad spectrum of neurological disorders. When treating patients, he takes pride in using the latest advancements in technology as well as building relationships by listening and keeping all communication channels open at all times.

Dr. Burakgazi is a member of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Peripheral Nerve Society, the American Academy of Neurology and the Turkish Medical Association.

He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His clinical interests include neuromuscular disorders, Peripheral nerve disease, Myasthenia Gravis, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), Muscular dystrophy, Radiculopathy and General Neurology.

When not traveling to different parts of the world with his wife, Dr. Burakgazi enjoys reading and watching movies.

  • I would recommend Dr. B for neurology issues to any of my friends or family. I think he is a considerate, Knowledgeable, and compate Dr. and he has been good to me and my health issues.

  • Dr. Ordered test that 3 other Southcoast Dr's. Did not in the past 3 years. Huge relief to find out it was not nerve damage which other Dr's. Told me it was.

  • Dr. Burakgazi and staff are always amazing. They are attentive, caring, and always willing to help.I have hemiplegic migraines and have seen many doctors. Dr. Burakgazi was able to help me the most, after trying medications he recommended Botox for my migraines. This is the only treatment that has given me relief in over 10 years, I am so grateful for Dr. Burakgazi! In addition, the SouthCoast pharmacy helped me, I am disabled and on a limited income, the pharmacy had me log into a website where I received a card to get the injections without a co-pay.I rate the office a 10 and give them an A+++ in all that they do. Thank you.

  • Lately it's rare to get a good specialist that takes time to listen, look at your previous tests, labs, etc and med list. Oh!!! And actually does a physical evaluation and doesn't tell you, "they think." This Dr seemed like he wanted answers. As do I. Not, "I think" or "most likely" or being rushed out of office. After my horrific experience with [Name] [Name] last week, I was forever grateful and thankful to finally get a Dr who cared.

  • The provider was fine during both visits and explained what was going to happen. However, after the second visit, there was no one at the check out window so I had to go to the check in window after waiting 10 minutes and then being told to go to the end of the line. I did not get any summary reports nor do I know if something the doctor wanted scheduled was even scheduled. The person did not give me any information

  • I'm disappointed that he didn't treat me for what I originally went there for. I'm satisfied that he was interested in my feet but he is referring me back to the doctor that referred me to him so then I am disappointed.

  • The staff were very helpful in moving up my appt date due to a cancellation. When I went to the wrong office, they contacted the right office, gave me directions and were very supportive.It was my first appt with Dr. Burakgazi and he put me (and my wife, who accompanied me) at ease immediately. He had my medical history available on the computer, asked pertinent questions and listened intently. He didn't interrupt and kept eye contact throughout. We never felt that he was in a hurry or brushed off our concerns. He explained the testing that he wished to do and made suggestions for lifestyle changes that could improve my memory and forestall deterioration, and told us that these suggestions would be available on My Chart, so we didn't have to take notes or try to remember them. We were encouraged and more hopeful when we left.

  • Upon entering the office I was cordially and kindly greeted by the staff at the check in window. I sat for no more than 2 minutes when an employee introduced herself as [Name] and led me to a small room to be weighed and fitted with a finger heartbeat and 02 monitor. Small conversation took place and then I was led to an exam room where I was to be met by Dr.B, the neurologist. Introduced ourselves and then a brief oral exchange took place so as to start my exam. He was very well prepped with my medical history and also had the computer info on before him. Brief physical exam completed and gave some insight as to my condition and forthcoming prescribed treatment. Dr. B gave me his diagnosis and advice in a very clear and non-rushed manner. He answered questions that I had and told me to call his office anytime and to request a call back if there were any concerns. He completed his exam and in a very non-rushed manner told me that he had finished and with a sincere forearm bump, we parted ways. A follow up appointment was made at the check-out window, and again the young lady greeted me very kindly and immediately set up the new appointment. She handed me a printout of my visit and had called in my new prescription to my local pharmacy. She asked if I had any questions about my visit or the paperwork. As I was leaving, the office personnel and medical staff bid me farewell and out I went. The entire group that I encountered should be applauded as to how they treat and greet patients. SouthCoast Health should be proud of to have them in their circle. Thank you.

  • I did not have to wait long before an MA came out to the waiting area and get me to bring me into an exam room. I did not have to wait long for the doctor. I appreciated that, as I had to get to work. I was happy with the appointment. Thank you.

  • I've only had one visit. It was informative and I'm hopeful for better care as this neurologist did listen and start me on medication and seemed to want to help me more than past doctors.

  • He answered all our questions and was open to our needs for more testing like an MRI. He was also down to earth not condesending like some doctors can be. Was also aware of possible nerve issues and recommending certain testing.

He doesn't Rush speaks very, very kindly to me, which I really appreciate and explains things and what he's going to do and why he's going to do it, so I cannot ask for anything more than that.   • He was knowledgeable but I had a few more questions I wanted answered I will ask in person at my appointment I'm concerned about my passing out my vision dizziness and shooting pains and not being able to get out of bed for 45minutes when I wake up cause of this and the pain

  • The Medical Assistant and Doctor are wonderful! Very interested in my husband's condition and what they can do to help him. The Doctor has set up several tests for him and they were set up very quickly. My husband feels very comfortable with the Doctor and we both trust that he is doing the best for him and have full confidence in him. There was a receptionist when we first arrived that was rather difficult. My husband has memory issues and is young (51) so I understand the miscommunication, but she was rather rude to him and he was upset about it. I understand it is common for people to not realize that younger people can have memory issues, but it is a neurologists office. A little kindness goes a long way in this crazy world. This is just an observation, not trying to get anyone in trouble.

  • Everyone in the office is very professional and genuinely kind. I never have to wait long to see my provider. Dr.B is amazing and consider myself extremely lucky to have him.

  • Get help that follows thru on medication refills and knows how to fill out foumurlary forms I have tried for over two months to get a refill on lyrica with no results I had seen the dr on Monday of this week and once again the form still is not filled out and today is Friday I have been sick to my stomach without the lyrics

  • My appointment notice told me to arrive 15 minutes ahead of my appointment time which was 8:00 AM. I got there at 7:40 and the office was locked. At 7:50 AM someone finally arrived. I was called into the doctors office at 8 o'clock, a nurse took my pulse and blood pressure and asked me several questions about my medication. She left at 8:05 telling me the doctor would be in shortly. He did not arrive until 8:30. This is completely unsatisfactory as I had to be the first patient of the day.. I will not make any appointments with this doctor again.

  • I was supposed to get a prescription called in to my Pharmacy and it is 2 days later, and I still don't have a prescription there. I think that something got all messed up. I will call the office Monday morning to see if I can get a prescription called in, that the doctor was going to call. Thank you.

  • I waited a long time to be seen by this Specialist and I feel I still don't have any answers as to the cause of the increasing pain of the bone lesion on my skull. I do not feel comfortable being treated for a migraine.

  • I love the physicians at south coast however I've been suffering with chronic back pain for over two months, and find it very difficult to get anywhere and prompt appointments. I've had two back surgeries within a year and still suffer daily to the point it brings me to tears . I really wish they were more efficient in getting the help needed

  • Better explanation of what the EMG test indicated. Also, the test was done on 7/29/21 and I haven't seen results in MyChart as of today, 8/1. Other tests I've had done have typically been posted within 24 hours.

  • The doc seemed knowledgeable and ordered tests quickly to assess my problem. The support staff was friendly and approachable. It was a good experience. The only flaw was waiting three months to get in to see the doc.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
