About Ahmet Burakgazi MD
Dr. Ahmet Z. Burakgazi received his medical degree from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. He went on to complete his neurology residency and a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, where he also served as Chief Resident.
Prior to joining Southcoast Health, Dr. Burakgazi was a staff neurologist and held academic positions at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, progressing from Assistant to Associate Professor of Neurology. He currently serves on the faculty in the Department of Neurology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
An accomplished clinician-researcher, Dr. Burakgazi has published widely in respected peer-reviewed journals, advancing the fields of neuromuscular medicine, peripheral nerve disorders, small fiber neuropathy, and general neurology. His body of work includes numerous original studies and case reports. He has also been an invited speaker at both national and regional conferences, presenting on a broad range of neurological topics.
Dr. Burakgazi is highly regarded for his expertise in diagnosing and treating complex neurological conditions. His clinical interests span neuromuscular diseases, peripheral neuropathy, Myasthenia Gravis, ALS, muscular dystrophies, and general neurology. He has a particular focus on chronic headache management—including the use of updated treatment protocols and Botox® injection therapy—as well as movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. He regularly evaluates and manages complex neurological cases using a comprehensive, evidence-based approach.
Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a diplomate of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Dr. Burakgazi combines advanced clinical expertise with a patient-centered philosophy.
A dedicated educator and mentor, he has guided medical students and residents through both research and clinical training, earning multiple Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Awards. He is an active member of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Peripheral Nerve Society, and the American Academy of Neurology.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Burakgazi enjoys traveling the world with his wife, reading, and watching films.

Dr. Burakgazi is a phenomenal doctor. He listens and truly cares about his patients wellbeing. He made sure that I understood about what was going on health wise. He has always listened to me and my concerns. He has never made me feel rushed. I highly recommend him to everyone I hear that needs a neurologist. I have had others before him and they were cold and really made me feel like a number. He makes sure that I feel as if my health is in my own control. Dr. Listened to all my concerns, and he explained everything, all the tests he'd like to have done. And having his staff set up all my tests and appointments. Trust him completely.
This televisit was so much better than going in for a 15 minute visit to touch bases on my condition and my meds.
My appointment was scheduled for 11:30am, I waited for 30 mins with no update. I used my hour lunch break for this appointment. It wasn't until I asked the staff for an update did they tell me anything. The waiting room wreaked of cigarette smoke. The patient rooms didn't have any air so it felt hot. The provider and medical assistant were nice and listened to my concerns.

Very compassionate from the staff to provider. Were able to get me an appointment quick and when I got stuck in traffic a was over 20 min late they still were able to see me. Very happy with this provider and their team
I was there for Botox injections for facial tics and the procedure went very well. I received about 20 injections and Dr. Burakgazi went out of his way to assure the injections were as painless as possible. It's too soon to tell how effective the treatment will be, but the last treatment 3 months ago was 100% effective in suppressing my tics. I can't think of anything that might have improved my experience.

The staff was efficient, yet also friendly. The doctor, as always, listened and interacted attentively, had solid recommendations and a great follow-on plan. I always read all provider notes following appointments. Dr Burakgazi's notes are the most comprehensive and accurate I have ever seen, from any provider.

I waited way too long for a very brief visit imy concerns were dismissed and not really addressed. Certain tests were ordered without any explanation of what the tests were for.

It was a very productive appointment as I had many questions that were answered clearly. Dr. Burakgazi explained the reasons for the tests that he ordered because of the symptoms I am experiencing. Some of which may be age related and some due to heredity. Overall, a very enlightening appointment.

Today, when I mentioned some new symptoms and an upcoming MRI ordered by my PCP, he immediately scheduled follow-up testing and an appointment next week to review the results. I always leave feeling heard and confident in his care.
