About Ahmet Burakgazi

Dr. Burakgazi earned his medical degree at the Hacettepe University School of Medicine Ankara, Turkey. He then completed his neurology residency and Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship at George Washington University, School of Medicine in Washington DC. Before joining Southcoast, Dr. Burakgazi served as a staff neurologist at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He has been distinguished as an associate professor of neurology at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

Dr. Burakgazi’s extensive clinical experience has helped him to become an expert in the region on treating and managing a broad spectrum of neurological disorders. When treating patients, he takes pride in using the latest advancements in technology as well as building relationships by listening and keeping all communication channels open at all times.

Dr. Burakgazi is a member of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Peripheral Nerve Society, the American Academy of Neurology and the Turkish Medical Association.

He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His clinical interests include neuromuscular disorders, Peripheral nerve disease, Myasthenia Gravis, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), Muscular dystrophy, Radiculopathy and General Neurology.

When not traveling to different parts of the world with his wife, Dr. Burakgazi enjoys reading and watching movies.

  • Treat me like family

  • Dr. Burakgazi was very thorough, very informative and I was quite pleased with the treatment I received.

  • My appointment notice told me to arrive 15 minutes ahead of my appointment time which was 8:00 AM. I got there at 7:40 and the office was locked. At 7:50 AM someone finally arrived. I was called into the doctors office at 8 o'clock, a nurse took my pulse and blood pressure and asked me several questions about my medication. She left at 8:05 telling me the doctor would be in shortly. He did not arrive until 8:30. This is completely unsatisfactory as I had to be the first patient of the day.. I will not make any appointments with this doctor again.

  • I was supposed to get a prescription called in to my Pharmacy and it is 2 days later, and I still don't have a prescription there. I think that something got all messed up. I will call the office Monday morning to see if I can get a prescription called in, that the doctor was going to call. Thank you.

  • I waited a long time to be seen by this Specialist and I feel I still don't have any answers as to the cause of the increasing pain of the bone lesion on my skull. I do not feel comfortable being treated for a migraine.

  • The medical assistant I had was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and walked me through every aspect of the test. It made a a painful experience much more tolerable

  • I love the physicians at south coast however I've been suffering with chronic back pain for over two months, and find it very difficult to get anywhere and prompt appointments. I've had two back surgeries within a year and still suffer daily to the point it brings me to tears . I really wish they were more efficient in getting the help needed

  • Better explanation of what the EMG test indicated. Also, the test was done on 7/29/21 and I haven't seen results in MyChart as of today, 8/1. Other tests I've had done have typically been posted within 24 hours.

  • The doc seemed knowledgeable and ordered tests quickly to assess my problem. The support staff was friendly and approachable. It was a good experience. The only flaw was waiting three months to get in to see the doc.

  • The assistant that took me in and did the initial test was very informative Explained everything she was doing. Very courteous.Then Dr comes in does a few pokes with probe says No pinch nerve probably arthritis in joints walks out leaves me there unable to put sock and shoes on not happy still have pain in back legs and no idea what to do next.

  • Wait time between being called in and seeing the doctor was about a half hour. I was actually about ready to leave when he walked in. Also, I was again offered medication for a symptom that I was not being seen for. Every doctor I see wants to offer medication for a symptom that is caused by stress. I would have appreciated if we had just addressed the one major concerning symptom I was actually being seen for. If the doctor had bothered to speak with me, he would have learned I do not like taking medications , so offering me yet another one was bothersome to me.

  • I was hesitant and nervous about my new patient appointment, I thought nothing would get accomplished but to my surprise more than just the main issue I was seen for was addressed & a plan was made that I am very confident in. I am extremely satisfied with how my first appointment went.

  • The office was efficient and super nice, they got me in right away for an appointment i did not have to wait when i arrived for my appointment and Dr. B was very thorough! [Name] at check out had my MRI booked extremely quickly , staff and provider was amazing!

  • The woman in this office, [Name] was so extremely helpful with insurance issues, treated me kindly and was determined to get the answer for why my insurance wasn't going through. She even called the mail medication service with me then scheduled an appointment for me asap. The doctor is nice although he just comes in and gives me injections and leaves but is always kind and tries to make small talk to distract me.

  • My appointment was at 1130 and at 11:35 they took me to the examination room. I waited one hour in the room waiting to see the Dr. no explanation why, finally I decided to leave. What a bad experience. I couldn't believe with so many precautions they would do this.

  • The support staff was kind, listened and answered questions. I found the doctor to be rude and not willing to answer questions. His way of ending the appointment (to tell me to leave the room) was "we are done here". Never asked I had any questions.

  • Everything went fantastic from start to finish. The only thing I wish is that it may have been some kind of alternative stretch or some other kind of opportunity to get some kind of rejuvenation in the meantime. Some kind of holistic workout of sorts.

  • I was scheduled for an EMG test by my doctor.. I wasn't given any information as to what to expect. Once at the facility, the check in process was confusing. The desk staff seemed annoyed and told me I was supposed to have called in from the parking lot before coming in...there are NO signs in the lot or on the doors indicating these instructions, and the kind people doing the temperature checks didn't ask or remind me or anyone else that they had to call in ... I don't feel it's necessary to have to call in from the parking lot, it's a waste of time and added nusiance. Both the technician and the MD I saw for the test were very nice, and efficient.

  • Yes, he was very nice. And so was the secretary that we paid her and then they called us in within 5 minutes and he wanted to make sure I was okay. He was just doing a follow up and I had to answer 3 questions and that was pencil, window and school bus. He told me that in the beginning and at the end. He said do you remember the three words I said, yes. I do. I told him pencil, window and school bus, and he said your memories a lot better than what it used to be. So, he was very happy told me I didn't have to see him for year. That's it. Thank you.

  • The doctor was wonderful. He remembered my past medical history. He discussed my, my health and ongoing concerns. The office was beautiful. The staff was terrific. It was nice to see [Name] again. She was a lovely when she worked with me, and she was lovely working there at Dr. Burakgazi's office. He remembered many things about me that I did not think he would remember and that was a comforting thing to know. Thank you very much.

I feel like he will do everything he can to help me manage my medical diagnosis. Highly recommend. Also I'd like to acknowledge the MA (I believe her name was Makenzie). She was professional, personable, polite and had such a positive attitude. The girl that checked me out and set up my appointments was also extremely helpful.

  • The doctor is great. The office staff needs to be better. I was treated unprofessionally and rudely. Also the medical assistant was in such a hurry she did a poor job. Rushed through my history and did not ask about my present condition. I have a new medical problem. It seems the entire staff with the exception of the doctor should be retrained or replaced.

Why does Southcoast publish survey ratings online?
Southcoast is dedicated to providing patients and consumers with helpful information about the quality of our patients’ experiences. Star ratings published on our physician biography pages are based on actual responses from patients of that particular physician to patient satisfaction surveys that are distributed and processed by a national patient satisfaction survey vendor.

Who receives the survey?
Our vendor sends surveys via SMS or email to all patients seen in our outpatient physician practices who have a valid smart phone number or email address on file with Southcoast Health. Surveys are sent to patients within a few days of their appointment.

How is the Patient Satisfaction Star Rating Calculated?
Star ratings are calculated using an average of all survey responses to each of three questions: Courtesy and Respect of Staff, Provider Overall Rating, and  Willingness to Recommend Provider’s Office.  The star rating displayed on our physicians’ main biography page represents the average of the three measures for that particular physician.
