About Ahmet Burakgazi MD
Dr. Ahmet Z. Burakgazi received his medical degree from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. He went on to complete his neurology residency and a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, where he also served as Chief Resident.
Prior to joining Southcoast Health, Dr. Burakgazi was a staff neurologist and held academic positions at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, progressing from Assistant to Associate Professor of Neurology. He currently serves on the faculty in the Department of Neurology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
An accomplished clinician-researcher, Dr. Burakgazi has published widely in respected peer-reviewed journals, advancing the fields of neuromuscular medicine, peripheral nerve disorders, small fiber neuropathy, and general neurology. His body of work includes numerous original studies and case reports. He has also been an invited speaker at both national and regional conferences, presenting on a broad range of neurological topics.
Dr. Burakgazi is highly regarded for his expertise in diagnosing and treating complex neurological conditions. His clinical interests span neuromuscular diseases, peripheral neuropathy, Myasthenia Gravis, ALS, muscular dystrophies, and general neurology. He has a particular focus on chronic headache management—including the use of updated treatment protocols and Botox® injection therapy—as well as movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. He regularly evaluates and manages complex neurological cases using a comprehensive, evidence-based approach.
Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a diplomate of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Dr. Burakgazi combines advanced clinical expertise with a patient-centered philosophy.
A dedicated educator and mentor, he has guided medical students and residents through both research and clinical training, earning multiple Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Awards. He is an active member of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the Peripheral Nerve Society, and the American Academy of Neurology.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Burakgazi enjoys traveling the world with his wife, reading, and watching films.

Dr. Burakgazi was refreshingly attentive and genuinely concerned with my issue. He ordered tests and scheduled a follow up. He also made it clear if I had any questions no matter how minor I could message him via mychart. So many specialists blow in and out and don't listen - I can't say that about Dr. Burakgazi. I was impressed by his genuine concern. I will definitely refer patients to him that may need his specialty.

Doctor Buragazi took the necessary time to thoroughly listen and respond to patient's concerns, symptoms and health history, identifying methods for future goals: assessing, evaluating, testing, therapies, medicines, and considering patient needs and steps for management and preventative and managerial care ruling out reasonable identifiable medical illness: diseases, damage, disorders, and, or conditions.

Dr Burakgazi has helped me tremendously. Migraines may not be devastating as other neurological diagnosis are much more serous however my migraines were debilitating. Dr Ahmet Burakgazi is a careful listener. He strives to have a complete picture of the patient before making recommendations. If one course of treatment doesn't work, he gives careful thought to trying another. I give the highest recommendation to him and his staff.
The experience was great. I was quickly seen. The doctor definitely listened to my concerns and also looked at prior imaging and history and I felt as he was really focused on my health and nothing else during this visit. We discussed what was needed, any other concerns, meds, and monitoring. I was really happy with how the visit went and very comfortable even though it was an initial visit. He listened to my health problems and increased the dosage of my medicine. He scheduled blood tests and an MRI. Through these tests my condition will be monitored.

I was seen in a timely manner. Dr.Ahmet was prompt and discussed my previous medical history before going on to my present issues. He made suggestions on vitamins and supplements. We set an appointment to take a EMG test for more information and will then discuss the results. I felt comfortable and confident that Dr. Ahmet knew what he was saying.
Call was scheduled at 1230 but I didn't get a call until after 2. I was told Dr was running behind but it was very behind. He did apologize and we did have the appointment. I understand emergencies come up and luckily we made it work
