About John Ponti, MD, CAQSM
Dr. John Ponti specializes in non-operative treatment. He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He then went on to further his medical expertise, graduating with his Doctor of Medicine from T.H Chan School of Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA. Dr. Ponti completed his residency at Brown Family Medicine in Pawtucket, RI before moving on to complete his fellowship at UMass Sports & Exercise Medicine in Worcester, MA. He is board certified through the American Board of Family Medicine.
During his fellowship training, Dr. Ponti was a team physician for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, as well as the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Holy Cross. Dr. Ponti specializes in Sports Medicine and is the Affiliate Instructor of Sports Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine at the T.H. Chan School of Medicine UMass Chan Medical School.
Dr. Ponti’s philosophy of care is centered around believing that a physician should strive to educate, inform, and empower their patients to make the best clinical decisions. As he is trained in primary care, he also believes in treating the patient as a whole and taking into account all of their medical conditions and history when treating them.
He is an avid Boston sports fan and is especially passionate about baseball. In addition, Dr. Ponti volunteers at a summer camp for children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Ponti took the time to explain what he was doing and what might be the issue. He explained things so I could understand and made me feel comfortable talking to him.

Checked in at 8:40 am. Did not even sit down and was called in for x-rays then straight to room and was seen minutes later. Checked out at 8:57 am. The best service. Dr Ponti was great and addressed the problem. An overall great experience.

When I called I was informed someone had cancelled an appointment and they let me know of this. I was able to get an appointment within a very reasonable time frame.
Dr Ponti takes his time explaining every concern I have and helped me develop a treatment plan for my next steps. He encouraged & allowed me to try all treatments before we ultimately decided to peruse the surgical route. I now feel fully confident with this decision. His support during this was key.
This was my first visit with Dr. Ponti. He had read my history from seven years ago to present regarding shoulder pain. He asked me questions and suggested different routes we could take. He also gave his opinion about what we should do. I will definitely go back to him and recommend him to others.
