About John Ponti MD, CAQSM
Dr. John Ponti specializes in non-operative treatment. He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He then went on to further his medical expertise, graduating with his Doctor of Medicine from T.H Chan School of Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA. Dr. Ponti completed his residency at Brown Family Medicine in Pawtucket, RI before moving on to complete his fellowship at UMass Sports & Exercise Medicine in Worcester, MA. He is board certified through the American Board of Family Medicine.
During his fellowship training, Dr. Ponti was a team physician for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, as well as the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Holy Cross. Dr. Ponti specializes in Sports Medicine and is the Affiliate Instructor of Sports Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine at the T.H. Chan School of Medicine UMass Chan Medical School.
Dr. Ponti’s philosophy of care is centered around believing that a physician should strive to educate, inform, and empower their patients to make the best clinical decisions. As he is trained in primary care, he also believes in treating the patient as a whole and taking into account all of their medical conditions and history when treating them.
He is an avid Boston sports fan and is especially passionate about baseball. In addition, Dr. Ponti volunteers at a summer camp for children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Ponti had X-rays taken upon arrival and was able to show me the area on concern. He went over treatments options both long and short term. I decided to have an injection in the shoulder. I liked being able to discuss the treatments available and seeing the X-ray. He is available if needed in the future.
Dr. Ponti always reviews my medical issues with me. Today as he reviewed my MRI I was able to view the area of the tendon that is torn and the cause of my hip pain.Dr. Ponti reviewed options that were available to treat the problem as well as referring me to a surgeon to discuss future plans.
The receptionist [Name] was always so helpful, she went above and beyond to get me my treatments from workers comp. Dr. Ponti was awesome, listened to all my concerns, treated me with respect and was very concerned about my needs. I can't say enough about how good I treated by everyone at southcoast.
The xray tech was excellent, (I'm sorry I did not catch her name). She was very personable. Dr. Ponti was excellent. He explained everything in layman's terms, and he laid out a plan for the next 6 weeks. The nurse who came in to get my info at beginning of appointment, it seemed she did not really want to be there.

Checked in at 8:40 am. Did not even sit down and was called in for x-rays then straight to room and was seen minutes later. Checked out at 8:57 am. The best service. Dr Ponti was great and addressed the problem. An overall great experience.

Dr. Ponti is the best. He rescheduled me at the last minute as I was sick last week. I was scheduled for my procedure at 8:20 but it was all over by then. Dr. Ponti is an expert sonographer and proceduralist. It literally took him 2 minutes to finish, working without an assistant. Almost no pain. I cannot imagine anything better.
