About Essam Awad, MD
Dr. Awad holds a medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital, affiliated with Yale University, Conn. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Francis Hospital also in Conn.
Dr Awad completed a critical care fellowship at the Miriam Hospital, R.I., affiliated with Brown University. Dr. Awad completed a pulmonary fellowship at the University of Connecticut Medical Center.
Dr. Awad has been practicing in the Fall River area for more than two decades. He is the Director of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program for Southcoast Health. He also is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine.
Dr. Awad is fluent in Arabic.
Essam speaks Arabic, Portuguese.

My new doctor, which I hadn't met before, seemed very knowledgeable and cared a great deal. And I was sick during COVID and had a really bad cough that scared me. And he explained everything that was going on in my lungs. And one thing he said was, I'm allergic to albuterol and was surprised that my primary care did not have it listed on my profile as it needed to be listed. Thank you.
The staff is AMAZING! The ladies made me feel welcome and comfortable as it was my first time there. The provider made me feel rushed and wouldn't let me speak or ask questions without interrupting me. He made me feel dumb and not important. If I didn't have to go back, I wouldn't. After the next appointment, I will be looking for another provider.
It is only my first visit. The doctor explained to me what the plan and follow up would be. The person that set up my future testing appointments bent over backwards to help me find dates and times that would work for me. When I went to the pharmacy the cost was too expensive. I wish we had discussed that but I am not sure he could have known the cost.
Did not feel listened to to explain pt physical status.
I was given an appointment for clearance of my health for surgery! It was done as I asked!
Was the first time I seen this doctor, and gotme in for a breathing test the very next morning , He also seemed concerned about my health , thank you .....

He explained everything where I could understand. and answered all of my questions, making me very comfortable.

This was our first visit with Dr. Awad. Before he even came in to see us, he researched our history (I guess from the computer's MyChart) and seem to know everything about my husband's health, what our concerns were etc. He prescribed a prescription my husband needed, in addition to increasing the dosage of his Trelogy which he needed.We were Extremely pleased with Dr. Awad and look forward to retaining him as my husband's Pulmonary Specialist for his COPD and other pulmonary issues he may have.
