About Sami Assad, MD
Dr. Sami Assad earned his Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Allopathic Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine in St. Georges, Grenada in the West Indies. He completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
His personal philosophy of care is that a little kindness goes a long way. He also tries to personify what he preaches and approaches health from an all-encompassing perspective where diet, exercise, sleep, stress, and mental care all contribute to a well-rounded picture of health. He himself is passionate about exercise and routinely participates in HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training), CrossFit, and weight training classes. His passion for exercise has also inspired his planning to hike all 40 peaks over 4,000 feet in New Hampshire.
His inspiration to become a doctor came from a personal loss at a very young age. He wanted to be in the know of what was happening and why things were occurring. Those experiences and the want to make sure no one felt in the dark about their healthcare propelled him into medicine. To him being a part of Southcoast Health means having the opportunity to provide care for the community he calls home.
When not at work he loves to take part in his exercise routines and dabbling and experimenting in the culinary arts.

Very impressed with the Dr. and the Staff.
It was a great experience. Support staff were helpful and friendly. Dr. Assad was very professional but also down to earth. He was easy to talk to and I felt like he cared. They offered vaccines but didn't make me feel like I was wrong for declining. I love that they encourage sick appointments with them and don't just send you to urgent care. It really feels like an old school family doctor. I highly recommend this office.

This was my first appointment so I don't have a lot of experience to refer to, but I was very impressed. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I was seen by the doctor almost immediately. Front staff was very courteous when I checked it. Immediately I was taken into a room where, I filled out a questionnaire with the nurse. Very th thorough conversation took place. Detailed discussion about concerns and a review of my medications. Follow up with a prescription. Also directed to have a follow up blood test.

My only concern is the patient portal. It's difficult to navigate and I am computer savvy. Towards the end of the questionnaire that one would fill out for the annual wellness visit it was difficult to navigate. Instead of advancing to the next page what it did was it sent you back to 3 or 4 pages before. Very confusing. Please have IT look into this. Otherwise very good visit. Dr. Assad is an excellent PCP and the Tiverton RI staff are great.
