O Southcoast Health Cancer Care fornece agora uma máquina aceleradora linear avançada que pode duplicar a velocidade da aplicação de radiação

This week, Southcoast Health officials and community leaders came together at Southcoast Health Cancer Care in Fairhaven to celebrate the installation of the system’s newest, and most advanced, linear accelerator (linac) machine to treat cancers and other conditions by precisely delivering high-energy radiation.
With the launch of the new Varian Edge linac with Brainlab Exactrac, which features an innovative new imaging platform, Southcoast Health Cancer Care now offers the most advanced radiation cancer treatment available today.
“On every level, this new digital linac transforms how we use radiation to treat people with cancer by providing more precise radiation delivery and increased image resolution,” said Patrick J. Gagnon, MD, MS, Chief of Radiation Oncology and Chief Medical Information Officer at Southcoast Health. “We can now deliver radiation treatment more than twice as fast, expediting life-extending therapy and enabling our therapists to treat more patients, with greater accuracy and an improved treatment experience for patients.”
Southcoast Health invested more than $6 million for the acquisition of the new linac machine and related construction. Initially, Southcoast Health Cancer Care providers will use it to treat patients with solid tumor cancers including prostate, breast, lung, colon, bladder, gynecologic, head and neck, and skin cancer. Looking ahead, it will also be used in our brain radiosurgery program to treat patients with essential tremors, a neurological condition that causes uncontrollable shaking. “Our Southcoast Health Cancer Care providers and caregivers match advanced treatments and technologies with compassionate care. We treat you like family, because you are, and cancer care is personal. Launching this state-of-the-art radiation machine is the latest example of how we continuously invest in advanced treatments so our patients can receive the best care available while staying close to home,” said David McCready, President and CEO of Southcoast Health. “Cancer treatment is rapidly evolving; I’m proud that people in our region can now benefit from the latest radiation technology.”
