About John Shapiro MD
Dr. John Shapiro, MD, MPH completed a combined Doctorate of Medicine and Masters in Public Health program at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University. He went on to receive training in Internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His clinical interests include primary care, geriatric medicine, and diabetes management.
Dr. Shapiro was inspired to become an internal medicine physician because the doctor-patient relationship is so important to him. He believes he can help patients by listening to what’s wrong with them, meeting them where they are, and making recommendations specific to each unique situation.
Outside of work, Dr. Shapiro loves to spend time with his four kids, hiking, gardening, and exploring New England.

Our first appointment was 50 minutes long with both my husband and me present, covering both our needs. Dr. Shapiro listened to and answered our questions. He had obviously reviewed our earlier records from other providers, and offered his counsel when needed. We both left our appointment feeling that our needs were well met.
Dr Shapiro is an outstanding PCP. He is very knowledgeable, skilled, caring and takes the time needed for the appointment.

The girls in the office are very nice. They're very kind. They tell you everything you need to know. They tell you everything that they have to offer as far as the facility, your health care and everything else. It's the doctor that has an issue.

Dr. John Shapiro is very nice and he listens and is thorough. However, the wait time after the appointment time was rather long. For example, the appointment was for 3:30 PM, but I wasn't seen until sometime after 4PM.
Great experience. Called quickly in waiting room, polite and cordial updates with the nurse and vitals. Seen by Dr, shortly thereafter. Dr spent appropriate time with me and asked all the right questions.

I was very impressed with Dr. Shapiro at this visit. He truly cares and this was very apparent. He addressed my medical history and needs very clearly. As a new patient of Dr. Shapiro, I can readily see how important communication is to him. This put me at ease. Southcoast Health excels at this.

Dr. Shapiro is great! I love him!He's patient, kind and listens to your needs and discusses the best options for your situation. He doesn't just tell you what to do like other PCP's have done in the past. He includes you in on your treatment plan and takes into consideration your likes and dislikes and what you feel is best to suit your need and works with you to come up with a solution. He's a 10 out of 10.

I filled out a questionnaire in MyChart the previous day to speed up my check in but, was asked all the same questions at my check in and in the examination room I was asked an additional set of questions I had already answered in MyChart the previous day. So it looks like something is broken…
The service was excellent from the moment that I walked in and checked in to meeting with the nurse and then meeting with the doctor. He was extremely thorough, extremely helpful, great bedside manner, and truly seemed to care and take an investment in what I was needing.
