As well as the recipient for Healthgrades Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™ for 11 years in a row (2010-2020), Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia for ten years in a row (2011-2020), and the Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease for 12 years in a row (2009-2020). Additionally, named among the top 5% in the Nation for Overall Pulmonary Services for seven years in a row (2014-2020) and named among the top 10% in the Nation for Overall Pulmonary Services for 11 years in a row (2010-2020). Healthgrades is the leading online resource helping consumers make informed decisions in order to find the right doctor, the right hospital, and the right care.

President & CEO of Southcoast Health, Keith Hovan, stated, “These recognitions are further testimony that Southcoast Health is providing a level of care that is on par with the best hospitals in the U.S… At the forefront of this achievement is our dedication to improving quality care and patient safety, which is represented by these awards of excellence.”

These achievements are part of new findings and data released on Healthgrades.com and in the Healthgrades 2020 Report to the Nation. For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated the performance of nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide, assessing clinical outcomes across 32 procedures and conditions. The 2020 Report to the Nation provides consumers with information that shows the importance of hospital quality, as well as the significant variation in health outcomes between different hospitals across the country.

Dr. Daniel Sousa of Pulmonary Medicine adds, “I take care of patients who suffer from a variety of diseases, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancers, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, and many others. I focus on how the disease affects the patient and identify what types of things we can do to intervene and modify the condition to help make life more functional. That’s my commitment to delivering clinical quality.”

Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts will designate as 5-star (statistically better than expected), 3-star (statistically as expected), and 1-star (statistically worse than expected) categories.

Detailed performance information, such as cohort-specific outcomes data and quality achievements, as well as more information on the Healthgrades 2020 Report to the Nation, including the complete methodology, can be found at www.healthgrades.com/quality.
