Providence College Athletes Team Up with Southcoast Health to Inspire Youth at Local Boys & Girls Clubs

Providence College student athletes, Grace Efosa and Bryce Hopkins, accompanied by teammates MacKayla Scarlett and Jayden Pierre, once again teamed up with Southcoast Health and returned to the Fall River and Greater New Bedford Boys & Girls Clubs to bring inspiration and motivation to the local youth.

“It’s been great having Grace and Bryce back again this year. We really appreciate these athletes taking the time to visit our program and share such an important message about education and perseverance,” said Bill Kiley, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Fall River. “Meeting them inspires our kids to dream big and understand that success comes from hard work and dedication. We can’t thank them enough.”

At two recent visits in December and January, the teammates engaged with the young participants and discussed the importance of staying in school, the value of education, and the power of hard work. Grace, now a fifth-year senior guard, continues her commitment to her academic success and is enrolled in the Master of Arts in Global Education program at Providence College. Bryce, also a dedicated student, was voted preseason All-American, recognizing him as one of the top players in the country for his skills and talent. At the visits, all four Providence College athletes spoke with the kids to reinforce the critical role these attributes played in their success both on and off the court.

Throughout the events, the players participated in friendly one-on-one games, posing for photos and signing autographs. This unique partnership between Southcoast Health and the Providence College Friars reflects both organizations’ commitment to fostering a culture of learning, empowerment and wellbeing within the community.

“Last year’s event was such a success and left these kids eager to welcome the players back. The visits are more than just a chance for them to meet talented athletes, they’re an opportunity for them to hear firsthand how commitment to education and hard work can open doors to incredible opportunities,” said Robbie Mendes, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford. “The lessons shared today will inspire our kids for years to come.”
