About Melissa Gaffney, NP
Melissa Gaffney earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Rhode Island College (RIC) in Providence, RI. While practicing for several years as a Registered Nurse, she further developed expertise in the care of surgical and acute care hospitalized patients. She increased her knowledge, skill and abilities by returning to RIC to pursue a Master of Science degree in Nursing, with an emphasis on the Surgical First Assist role. Upon completion, she was certified to practice as a Nurse Practitioner, to provide acute care to adults and geriatric patients. Her clinical interests include patients undergoing General Surgery and Bariatric Weight Loss.
As a Southcoast Health employee since 2015, Melissa’s personal philosophy has aligned with Southcoast’s slogan “More than medicine”. Her practice encompasses therapeutic communication, compassionate, safe and quality care with each patient encounter.
In her free time, Melissa enjoys walking and hiking with her yellow Labrador Retriever, as well as traveling and trying new restaurants with friends and family.

This is my favorite office to go into. All the nurses that are there are extremely friendly. They know who you are. You are not just a number. You are a person when you walk in there. I am comfortable sharing any information about myself with my doctor. She takes the time to listen and does exactly what is best for me, which is very important to me. And she takes the time with each patient individually. She's very kind and caring. I love Dr. [Name] as well. Melissa is fantastic. And the girls are great. It's my favorite doctor's office to go to.
There's virtually no waiting. You're seen in a timely manner. Melissa is attentive and actively listens to me and is super encouraging. I love my experience with this service.

I got to tell you that Melissa was a lifesaver for me. She helped me out so much with weight loss and she's very informative. She knows everything about my health and everything else, but she's an asset to South Coast Health.
It's always a great visit
The provider seemed unconcerned with some issues I asked about, did not clarify some questions I had, and then told me to "lose some weight" because that's what insurance companies like to see. She was really quite rude. Not a fan!
