About Craig Moores, MD
Dr. Moores earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. He then completed a general surgery residency at Yale University School of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He sought further training by completing a plastic surgery residency at the University of South Carolina Medical School and completed his final year of training with a hand and microsurgery fellowship at Yale. Dr. Moores is triple board certified in hand surgery, plastic surgery and general surgery.
During his training Dr. Moores conducted research in opioid prescribing patterns and protocols to standardize opioid prescribing. He was fortunate enough to present his research nationally to the American Society of the Hand and the American Society of Plastic Surgery. In 2018 he won the resident research award from the Medical University of South Carolina division of Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand surgery.
Dr. Moores has clinical interests in hand surgery, reconstructive surgery, congenital hand defects, plastic surgery, nerve reconstruction, body contouring, breast augmentation as well as breast implant removal, skin cancer reconstruction, facial rejuvenation, and abdominal wall reconstruction. In college, he majored in studio art with a concentration in sculpture. Dr. Moores was inspired to become a plastic surgeon as this career allowed him to combine his passion for science and helping people with his passion for creative thinking and art.
His personal philosophy of care is to work with patients and families to manage their individual needs and achieve the best possible outcomes both functionally and aesthetically. Dr. Moores enjoys the time he spends with patients and their families and believes that through open and honest communication, a patient and physician can best understand each other and reach the best care decisions together.
During his medical training, Dr. Moores participated in several medical missions abroad. Throughout these experiences, he was able to use his skills as a physician, as well as his respect, and interest in different cultures to communicate with others despite language barriers. Participating in these missions was a gratifying experience that Dr. Moores wants to continue with throughout his professional career. In his downtime, Dr. Moores enjoys surfing, fly fishing, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
