About Richard Dowd MD, MS
Dr. Richard Dowd earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. He then went on to earn both his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation and his Doctor of Medicine from the New York University School of Medicine, in New York City, New York. Dr. Dowd specializes in Neurosurgery and Endoscopic Spine Surgery.
He completed his Residency at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts and a fellowship of Neurosurgical Oncology at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
His philosophy of care is believing that care is a partnership between a doctor and patient. He believes that as a doctor, it is his job to help patients understand the problem at hand. Together they review all options and decide on what they feel is the best path to take.
When not at work he enjoys spending time with his family, sailing, hiking, and playing guitar.

Dr Dowd's staff was able to have me seen earlier that what was orginal told. They were friendly and professional. Dr Dowd was also friendly and reviewed my Ct scan with me. He ordered an MRI and prescribed something to help me with the claustrophobic. I am glad I was recommended to Dr Drowd.

I feel that my provider trully cares about his patients. He gave his full attention to me instead of typing away and not saying a word to me like most providers have in my personal experience. He listens and remembers past conversations. I could not have asked for a better provider. Very satisfied and highly recommend !

Dr Dowd was very personable and informative. He listened to my concerns and went over test results with me and always assured I knew what was going on.
I finally felt like someone explained why I was in so much pain instead of gaslighting me and telling me to just learn to live with the pain. I left feeling relieved that I finally have a game plan.

Dr. Does is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor. He explained everything I asked about my kind of pain, why he thought it was from and suggested two possible ways of dealing with it.
Dr. Dowd was exceptional. From calling me to a room from the lobby, to knowing my medical history In depth, to explaining my diagnosis and all the possible treatment options. He was what a doctor should be. Highly recommended him.
