Katherine Macarthur, MD earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Tufts University in Medford, MA, followed by their Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.
Dr. Macarthur is dedicated to providing patient-centered care that considers the broader context of each individual’s life. They strive to create an affirming and authentic space for patients to share their values and their whole selves and fosters meaningful relationships with patients, serving as both an advocate and guide while encouraging the patient’s autonomy. Committed to accessible and equitable healthcare, they believe in caring for the whole person through long-term partnerships.
Drawn to medicine by a love of science and a desire to help others they chose family medicine because they feel it allows them to build authentic connections and support patients in making informed, evidence-based decisions.
Dr. Macarthur is proud to work for Southcoast Health because of its commitment to serving and reinvesting in the community while providing high quality, accessible care.
Outside of medicine, they enjoy reading fantasy novels, caring for their two cats, traveling, and ballet dancing.

Appointment with Dr. MacArthur was very nice with back and forth conversation about my past, present and future health . She is very easy to talk to . I'm very pleased to have her as my PCP.

This provider is the only one who has made me feel heard. As a young chronically ill patient, I have been tossed around and dismissed due to my complex illnesses. This provider is the asset that Swansea family desperately needed.
The facility was really clean. Everyone was polite. Staff was polite. Things went really well. The provider was amazing. She answered every question I needed to ask in a manner that someone elderly could understand the words and what she didn't know. She would find out for me. So they were amazing. I would recommend the provider and the facility to anyone.

This was my first visit with a new primary care provider in this same office. My previous provider retired. I was very happy with my previous provider but had a very good first experience with the new one. They were very thorough in getting up to speed with my medical history and listened carefully to my health concerns and addressed all of them. Job well done.
Dr. MacArthur listened to me. At this time, I am at Hospice and I'm not quite certain as to what my future looks like. Dr. MacArthur assured me that they will walk hand and hand with me. Should I be taken off of Hospice. It was my first time meeting them and I was so impressed! Thank you so much.

My appointment was with a young doctor who took time to listen to my symptoms then examined my arm/ shoulder and explained their findings and recommended treatment. They were friendly and professional .

Dr MacArthur was great. they came in knowing my child had autism and likely had sensory issues and if there was anything they could do to make him most comfortable. It was very reassuring that they were aware of his specific needs and was willing to adapt to whatever would work best for him. It makes me proud as not only a parent but also as a southcoast employee and member of the More Abilities employee resource group. Thank you for being more!

The facility and the staff was amazing, always kind, always courteous. The provider I had, MacArthur, was wonderful. They listened to what I had to say. They didn't rush. They asked me if I had any questions. They talked in a manner that someone elderly can understand, not using big words that I don't understand. they were absolutely wonderful and I would recommend them and their facility to anyone.
