About Michael Simon MD
Dr. Michael Simon earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the George Washington University Columbian College of Arts and Sciences in Washington, DC. He then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University, School of Medicine. He then earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at The George Washington University Hospital and his Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital.
Having always been interested in sciences, he was inspired to become a doctor after he got to see firsthand the connection a physician makes with a patient; the perfect alignment of scientific curiosity and service to others.
His philosophy of care centers on empathy, patience, and clear communication. He wants his patients to know they are more than a diagnosis or culmination of lab values or chest radiographs.
When not at work, Michael is an avid reader of science fiction. He loves gardening, landscaping, and DIY home improvement projects. He’s also known for bringing along a few board games on his weekend cabin escapes with friends.

I have been very fortunate with the care I have received over the years from the wonderful staff at Southcoast Health. Dr. Simon was well prepared for my visit. He clearly reviewed all my past exams and history. He was very clear on my future needs ordering needed tests and exams. Working with my cardiologist I feel I could not get better care anywhere. Dr Simon was very attentive and familiar with my case from my previous provider who is retiring. Even tho this was my first visit with him he was familiar with my previous doctor's discussion with him about my case and still listened attentively. He explained what steps he wanted to do next and was very clear about being happy about my being a partner in my treatment.
